Delta is so close to an investment grade rating they could get there as early as next year. Why order any planes till that happens?

So you agree with EB here in the 2012 Q3 earnings call:

And just in the sense of retaining that revenue on that lower-cost base, you’re pretty confident that its revenue that’s in the network, solidly in the network and you don’t need to worry about someone coming in and down-gauging and stealing some of that share?

Ed Bastian
No, because actually, we’ll be mindful of our frequency by market and that’s a key driver, and the 717 deal, particularly, gives us much better gauge and the second thing is, I don’t think customers want to fly 800, 900 miles on a 50-seater. Part of what we’re doing here is putting a better product in the market, better fuel efficiency, fewer airplanes in the air and our customers tell us they much prefer flying on mainline airplanes rather than 34-, 44-, and 50-seat airplanes.

Too logical.

Heard a rumor that the company is not pleased with the 737-900 ER's performance. Yes, I know we don't have any yet. The rumor was that we somehow got these from a cancelled AA order, very cheap, so cheap they couldn't say no. The rumor goes on to say that there may be more 757's staying around than originally planned due to the fact that nothing else out there can do what it does as well as it does it.

Say we go down to the rumored total 60 757s which (minus 16 753s) which would be around 44 airplanes (not counting 10 or so we've already lost). So 40ish 752s is 100 less than now which is plausible if the 739s become 100% 752 replacements (not including 763 domestics).

Now I agree from hearsay from CAL pilots the 739 leaves a lot to be desired performance wise and I don't doubt that there will be some disappointment. But how often on a ATL-RDU or ATL-FLL route do we need a 752 instead of a 739? Or, can we live with just 40 or so 752s doing 752 work and the 739 doing the rest?

[QUOTE=acl65pilot;1468573]

Do you think that the company likes that a Reserve pilot can get pay no credit above guarantee and get their off days back when on reserve? Do you think they are happy that we can drop to zero hours in a month? Do you think they are happy that any DAL pilot can leave at any time they choose and they don't have a way to meter us out the door?

Maybe not, but they are probably pretty happy that we no longer have a defined benefit retirement which enables this.

No question the -900 will be perfect for ATL to Florida, and other Mid South cities or even ORD, STL, MCO, BNA, CVG... it's perfect for those types of routes. But the initial routes will be to the west coast...not ideal really for that AC.

The CSeries looks like it would be comfortable to fly and ride in the back, I like the 2-3 layout.

Bombardier was stupid to sign an agreement with Comac and limit the size of the aircraft though. It could have replaced the 320, 319, 75, 73, 71, as well as the large RJ's.

[QUOTE=forgot to bid;1468915]

The company doesn't make many dumb decisions.

What is your definition of many?

Buying COMAIR and ASA for billions and selling for millions.
Billions wasted on Stock buybacks.
Hundreds of millions lost by being 180 out on fuel hedges.
Buying hundreds of 50 seat RJs and then locking into multi-year contacts.
Paying millions into executive retention plans and then letting said executives leave anyway - although that part probably was smart.

I could go on with many more examples but I am short on time and you probably get the point.

You would have me onboard with a slight modification:

The company doesn't make as many dumb decisions as they used to.
