Do any of you know if the system is supposed to allow you to swap with someone else that wants your category? I know a bunch of SLC 73N B went to LAX 73N B, so why wouldn't the system allow them to switch with me and come back? I bid from SLC 73NB - LAX73NB with no luck. Wouldn't that be easy for the computer to process?

How long would a bypass returnee be on whatever he/she gets after coming back? Could they get the 717 right out the gate and bid off on the next AE? Looking at SDs stuff the last few weeks it appears that although a lot of the DTW slots weren't filled now, and what was filled was junior, the top of the category could fill with bypass folks and EVENTUALLY some new hires might trickle in to pad the bottom. But not right away. I think the answer is somewhere on APC but its hard to find with all the thread drift (and my thread jumping...)

35 ATL717B on AE. 14 awarded, but 17 guys LEFT ATL717B by bidding into DTW717B, and one guy left it by getting reinstated, so a net LOSS of 4 seats. This means that 39 ATL717B went unfilled.

65 DTW717B on AE. 28 positions awarded (and 17 of them came from ATL717B as stated above), so 37 spots unfilled.

So we have 76 unfilled 717B spots right now, to be presented to 300 furlough-returns/new-hires.

From BB's graph above, notice that Delta shrunk 5.5%. From approx 10,500 active pilots, that's 570 pilots or so. It's pretty easy to not hire or hire less than expected when you reduce your pilot needs by twice your retirements. Folks were posting earlier that the hiring numbers and the projected fleets don't match up... I think some of this shrinkage along with productivity gains explain it pretty well. That shrinkage... gives me shrinkage!

Good news for an ending: so far as I can tell, no one moved backwards and a couple guys got reinstated!

No. You cannot swap categories with someone else.

I think FTB moved back % wise. At least I would have had I been ATL 717B.

That's actually a pretty interesting concept though. If two equally qualled pilots want to swap bases with each other, where's the harm in it...we should be able to do it instantaneously.

Is there a downside for anyone?

That table obviously ignores changes in stage length. From Delta's own press releases, through June 30, domestic mainline ASMs are UP 2.0%, domestic regional ASMs are down 6.4%, for a net 0.1% increase in domestic. Overall international ASMs are down 2.1% for a total system wide change of negative 0.8%.

That's what really matters. So, just as predicted during the TA road shows, regionals are taking the brunt of the shrinkage, and the first 717 hasn't even arrived yet.
