Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
To me, the decision to go to mainline from a regional is a personal one just like what airplanes or bases you bid. Its nobody's business. If a senior guy wants to stay I am sure they have their reason but I don't want to be at an airline who recieves as long as they stay cheap.
FWIW, I have a good friend who spent 12 years at ASA and is now at DAL on the MD88 in ATL. In January he hits year 3 pay ($88/hr) which equals his 3rd year pay at ASA when he left and in 2011 his pay equals what it'd been if he stayed at ASA all of these years but remember he's on the lowest plane in ATL. If he switches his pay improves further plus he gets strong work rules and, per the contract, no other airline is allowed to take planes from him but he can, if deemed a worthy fight, take planes from ASA.
But honestly, why did he come to DAL? To fly larger planes and go further places and make more money and stop being at the mercy of DAL and instead be a part of DAL. But Joe, to each his own. You do whats best for you.

Please stop using logic with Joe. He just wants to be angry at mainline pilots and blame them for all his woes and inferiority complex, haha.

Sorry to hear that news Mesabah. That is the same reason I decided it was necessary to move on. Here, good news or bad news, at least you are on the same team.

What surprised me about Delta was:
- The pilots are great guys to fly with
- The overnights are often nice layovers at places I'd return to on vacation
- Dispatchers and Mechanics are expected to do their jobs. It is a much lower threat environment than most regional airlines where a operations mistake is always self disclosed and blamed on the Captain
- Crew scheduling is mostly logical and reasonable
- Flying really old, outdated, equipment is more fun than I thought it would be. Flying the 767-300ER with the big motors and the winglets rivals the reason I married my wife.
I hope that you wife does not read over your shoulder while you type.

I worded that poorly. What I meant is that I had not really thought about it. Day in and day out it adds up to a real reason to enjoy your job. I was just listing off the reasons Delta is a good place to work.

Me. I live in base, I only have 3 more days and I'm off the rest of the month, I am the bottom of the line holder list and I have 19 days off on a 74 hour line at $72/hr and I've only been here for just a little more than a year and a half. It goes to $88/hr next year.
If I lost ATL I'd go fly the MD88 in JFK happy to still be employed with what I think we all agree is the best airline in the industry.

Sounds like everyone has weekends off, lots of time off, and nobody is worried about commuting to JFK for reserve or getting furloughed....Great...You enjoy your mainline job, and I will enjoy being "scooter trash"....Sounds like everyone is happy! What's the problem?
Nothing is preventing this from happening at ASA.
Or USAir, Midwest, or Aloha, for that matter, so nevermind I brought it up...

What are you talking about? I think you are confusing the posted JB rates with the new contract they just received. Look at the pay rates on this website. A 10 yr 767 FO at DAL makes $112 - the ten year rate at ASA is $81. ASA captains top out at $104 in 18 years. The JB rate I was talking about was around $144 for 190 Captains.
You can perhaps make an argument about QOL as a reason to stay at ASA if you are really senior and don't want to start all over again - but arguing $ is a losing proposition.

JetBlue, Lufthansa Plan Code-Share Deal - WSJ.com
CHICAGO (Dow Jones)--Lufthansa on Monday announced plans to expand co-operation with JetBlue Airways (JBLU) in a move that may irk rivals such as Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL).
The German flag carrier and JetBlue plan a code-share deal from early October, a move that will leverage the U.S. carrier's strong position at New York's John F. Kennedy airport.
Deustche Lufthansa AG (DLAKY) acquired a 19% stake in parent JetBlue Airways Group Inc. in January 2008, but planned cooperation required the U.S. airline to first upgrade some of its reservations technology.
The planned tie had already raised concern from some rivals wary of efforts by members of the Lufthansa-led Star Alliance to boost their presence at JFK.
Delta last year called for Lufthansa to drop its two JetBlue board seats and "restructure" its relationship if it wanted additional anti-trust clearance for Star members.......
