So when the furloughees eventually come back the bottom guys may see guys coming in above them. It is still much better to be on the DAL seniority list with three or more years of longevity, then trying to get an interview at DAL.

If our biggest worry are the possibly 200 guys returning from an extended furlough, then we have much bigger worries!

I don't like it any more than the next guy being displaced and forced to commute again and again, but seniority is how we everything gets sorted out - pay, vacation, QOL, base, seat position and aircraft.

Capacity constraint has proven to be financially very successful for the company but came at the price of seniority progression for the pilot group. After eliminating the FE, 911, PBS, economic malaise, bankruptcy and raising of the retirement age took their toll on seniority progression this is just the latest hit.

Going forward we will have to hold the company responsible for providing regular continuous seniority progression for the pilots on property, or everything else becomes somewhat academic.

Cheers
George

I agree. Many pilots also wanted a hell of a lot bigger initial raise than 10.5 percent.

I hold DALPA accountable. The company's actions and desires are predictable and dare I say understandable. This job is about more money and more time off (for all pilots BTW). DALPA gave us less time off for a few extra pennies during the last go around....don't forget those same efficiencies that we sold to the company for rock bottom pricing cost us future jobs and seniority progression as well.

The online travel sites: expedia, travelocity, ect have better numbers than that! It really kinda ****es me off that the price for our supposed "benefit" has gone up as the time gets closer to departure date. As the dates get closer the numbers get higher on the public sites, but I think its wrong to jack it up and do the same to us employees.
Fly confirmed and fly confirmed for less, equals a fail as a benefit.

Rant over.
Try this:

Find the lowest fare on delta.com
Except for a few select routes, Delta typically has a pretty competitive fare.

Once you are satisfied with the lowest possible fare on Delta.com plug those flights into the "Fly Confirmed for even less" template in TravelNet.

BTW:
"Fly confirmed for less" is a joke because while it makes it sound the tickets are "refundable," unless the base fare before discount is refundable, the "fly confirmed for less" is also non-refundable.

Unless you are buying a full fare refundable fare, just go for the "fly confirmed for even less" option

I've saved about $800 to fly my family of four across the Atlantic to see the Grandparents...

Cheers
George

P.S. I'd be happy to pay a $500/year "access" fee to once a year get positive space "vacation passes" for my family.

And how many never run into a burning building? Ever.... How many cops never draw their weapon?

But how many of them get 90% pensions for eternity? What about schoolteachers? What about state congressmen? Where do you draw the line? Yes, my point is extreme, but it is symptomatic of a bigger problem. Nobody is forced to do anything. While their jobs might at times be considered heroic, they still choose to do these things, and I AM thankful that they do.

Am I denigrating their jobs? No, ya'll are simply missing the point. Sorry to be so obtuse. Keep voting for those pay raises and tax increases... They will be great right until they can no longer be paid. Ask anyone from Detroit.

Nope. You are putting words in my mouth. But you knew that, didn't you?

The problem is that the government can back up those plans (so far) while private firms cannot, unless DC rolls in with aid. My biggest ***** with pensions is that Washington chose to not bail out the airlines but did choose to underwrite the auto industry. Over time, our country has chosen to write checks we can't cash. Don't blame firefighters any more then you would blame Marines or national park rangers or cops.
My wife and I decided early on that the DB, while a nice promise was a house of cards. I actually LISTENED to the WAL guys when they talked about getting retirement in your own name, and I worked and saved to that end.

I DON'T blame the recipients, but I am done bailing everybody out too. Enough is enough. No more. It is time for personal responsibility, starting with the next person hired. Freeze everything going forward, give them all a 3% payraise and a 401(k). If they then mess it up, not my problem. Sorry.

And the first stop on this train should be the congress of the United States of America.

Something I still am not getting about this. So please spell it out for me (maybe smaller one-syllable words). Red bold is different from blue bold how? My mind is asking, why would you have to "call in full" if you reach reserve guarantee? Isn't full reaching/exceeding reserve guarantee?

Thanks for all the replies!!

You're right! I remembered the old ALV-2 and thought that had nothing to do with it anymore. This place is like wikipedia.. might be bad info at first but is soon self correcting. Amazes me that if you're rsv guarantee -1 minute that you're good for a 17+01 trip. Brilliant!

edit: after reading tsquare's posts, except for him. He's not self correcting since he's never been wrong!
