I realize it was CNN but a 'diagram' showed they were 1/2 mile apart laterally (3 required by ATC) and 200' vertically (1000' required). Appears to be an ATC error.

Nice picture '80. I'm not 100% sure but I think my father flew something that lookes similar to that back in the 1950's......(He was a test pilot in the Navy) Gotta check with him.

That's amazing! That's the XB-70 which was an air force strategic bomber.

Only a very very small handful of pilots got to fly it as I believe there were only 3 made.

It's the North American XB-70 Valkyrie. The Air Force tested it with NASA, but I don't think it ever entered service.

If it was test flown in the 1950's, it wasn't me.

Like I said, I could be wrong, I have to check with him. Let you know.

And I heard you were eternal. I guess the rumors have been getting out of hand.

It was a 542,000 lb Mach 3 bomber. Absolutely incredible.

The Navy had some pretty crazy fast stuff at that time as well, IIRC.

I know it didn't enter service. A few years ago I talked with my father about some of the planes he test flew for the Navy. One I know for sure, he did the checkout of the Navy's version of the Connie. I could swear he mentioned something that looked like this one. I'll send him a picture and ask him.

How about I took the 1950's off so I could save myself for the DC-9....
