As to the bolded portion of your post, I, and I like to believe, many other of our pilots will have a major issue with that. It does bother me that LOAs are signed without any input from the pilot group, but if the majority of those changes are minor in nature then I can accept that. Negotiating in good faith over time is not a strategy, and relief for being out of compliance with negotiated contractual requirements is a major show-stopper for me.

I'm cautiously optimistic. (Maybe I am being pessimistic)

You are preaching to the choir.

The fix here is for our usual suspects to stop lying and spinning. Then I can return to lurking as well.

Carl, I sent my DPA card in and will renew if asked. Any way this forum is slowly turning into the Dalpa forum with the same 15 guys posting here every day, except it's the pro DPA forum, anti LM and anti Dalpa forum. I will come back to lurk every now and then, but it's become a bore.

I'm curious to see what plays out over the next year or so, seeing as we are scheduled to be out of compliance with our share of the JV international flying.
On the regional side you'll have 125 50-sweaters to possibly swap out for more 76 sweaters. Maybe some easing on the range quota? I'd be curious about more seats in the 76ers. BH ratio increase to favor DCI?

Yes I said sweaters. I'm tired of fighting with the phone over whether I meant sweater or seater.

Default Ramp-Up in LAX

Had heard DL was going to ramp up flights out of LAX this summer & fall, now you can see them on travelnet, interesting stuff. Not sure how long they've been there, maybe old news is old. If you look at LAX-SFO on, say, Sept 6, they're operating an hourly shuttle from 7am to 9pm for 14 flights total, up from 11 now. On LAX-SEA they go to 5x a day vs 3x now. LAX-MCI 2x vs 1x now. LAX-OAK 7x up from 4x now. LAX-SJC 5x daily is new service, it's currently all Horizon Q400s. LAX-SMF 5x from 4x now. LAX-PHX 5x from 4x now. LAX-GEG 1x, new service.

Aaand now the other shoe drops: all that new service is done with - you guessed it - Jumbo RJs (CR7, CR9, E70, E75). Good thing they recently got 70 more, otherwise their only alternative to Alaska would be mainline and your vampire LAX pilots would be forced to do something other than redeyes. Oww, the sunlight, it burns! Kidding aside, while right now it's just one form of outsourcing replacing another, this does represent another step towards competing with Alaska on the west coast. Hopefully it grows to the point that mainline eventually gets some of that sweet, laidback west coast flying.

Edit: I was actually wrong. 1 of the LAX-SEA flights is an A320. So there's that!

I've met Hennie-Roed, and he is very sharp. In fact he had left DAL to go to World a few years ago, and sorely missing his talents, DAL hired him back. I have not met Hummel, but I hear he is very sharp as well. (Both these guys are in sharp contrast to who used to run the show a decade ago and longer).

I honestly wonder if DAL leadership, and specifically Network, is just giving these guys 10 lbs of proverbial flour and asking them to stuff it into a five pound bag.

Think about it. We already have one of the world's most mixed-up fleets. Then thrown in a marketing department that just salivates at the opportunity to change aircraft on a near daily basis to "perfectly" match fleet with market, maximize revenue, blah blah blah. Now add lots of bases scattered all over the place, and retiring one aircraft outright in the near term (DC9), bringing in a new fleet, drawing down another, etc etc, and it is a wonder that they can keep up at all.

I think the real hitch is the fact that Network likes to make their plans at the last second, holding out for the "best" numbers from marketing and res sales, then throws the whole mess to crew resources and then say, "here, make the pilot categories work to support this block hour plan."

That's just armchair speculating, but I suspect that has something to do with it.

My problem with this website is the moderators. I mean is it really any of their business how your ... CQ...goes?

IThis month's Flying magazine is terrific, written by an E175 Captain, enjoying cruise in his modern jet, making more coin, with better toys and more time off, enjoying his CREW MEAL on a domestic leg and he's like 15 years younger than me ....

So why did the Delta MEC divest the Compass pilots again?

Last-second network planning is a good thing - it certainly helps to maximize revenue and justifies Delta's diverse fleet mix - but that kind of flexibility carries a price: extra bodies on property. The way they've held off on hiring until the last possible minute severely cuts down on that flexibility. They're going to need to decide what they want more, flexibility or lean manning, because once they get behind the eightball on hiring & training, the decision will have been made for them.

So we'd stop asking for a staple of people already hired here.
