Same with AA/US. DAL is going to get left behind in a wide way.

I watched this sci-fi movie about a year ago

It was physically painful to watch.

Based on what is being communicated now, it sounds like backpeddling for hiring even in 2014.

Those of you who say the "overstaffing" situation and fleet adjustments were not known while ALPA/Management were selling the daylights out of C2012 (which included large productivity gains which stymies hiring) with "we may begin the hiring process in fall 2012" are not being honest with yourselves or your fellow pilots.

Read paragraph 5 and 6 of the latest Crew Planning memo. "While the plan is still preliminary...." "...hiring has not been authorized at this time, and with a surplus of pilots at a system level we have to utilize our existing pilot staffing. As a result, we must displace now in order to staff the hours that Network has given us."

During a quiet night, I overheard Center ask an MD-80 crew (not Delta) if anything about that movie was accurate.

MD-80: "Not at all."
Center: "Yeah - I didn't think so."
MD-80: "Our stews aren't nearly that hot."

We got a good laugh out of that.

You nailed it.

It was actually a SPOT scenario that had an MEL before we went flying into the W/S, to be fair...Still far too many "right" places to find stuff. I didn't even mention the Airway Manual

And what makes you so sure the agragate composite LGBP wouldn't be dumbing down of the current agragate pay rates based on type?

Also how much productivity on a permantly decreased head count would we be conceding?

A further concern with LGBP is it would incentify WB outsourcing. Some might say who cares so long as we get paid what a WB does which is questionable to begin with, but as soon as we become domestic feed for outsourced international on the top and jumbo shrimp RJ's on the bottom we could be facilitating
serious staffing surpluses.

It's not just pay, but also growth and the ability to upgrade. LGBP is fine as long as I've got mine and don't think I'm going any further.

Yeah, but then there's the opening scene...

When the big cheese in charge of your union is a proponent of the outsourcing model (ie "RJ's flown by DCI are good for Delta Pilots in the long run"), it will be very difficult to ever stem the bleeding of mainline Delta pilots jobs. When those running DALPA (often ignoring the concept of representation) still bow to the ALPA national president and mirror his policies you are double screwed.

I have said this before and I will say it again...within the current union there is no long term strategy to convert the job back into a profession. You want a sign? Giving/selling productivity work rules to the pilot ranks during times of record profits, hampering movement across the board. There's your sign.
