How big is the compass pilot group?

APC lists 439 pilots. Assuming 440 pilots at Compass, 25% of the seniority list is only:

440 pilots x .25 = 110 Compass pilots in rolling 12 months.

110 / 12 months = 9.1666

So only 9 Compass pilots approximately per month, at 110 max.
Almost right

1/4 of the pilot group in 1 rolling year is correct (can be waived by Delta)
However the first 20 spots per month are reserved for compass pilots.
So if Delta has 2 new hire classes in a month the first 20 spots go to compass pilots

So
1st month 20 CPZ
2nd month 20 CPZ
3rd month 20cpz
4th month 20 cpz
5th month 20 cpz
6th month 10 cpz
7th month 0 cpz
8th month 0 cpz
9th month 0 cpz
10th month 0cpz
11 month 0cpz
12 month 0cpz

edit: guess scoop beat me 2 it

You gotta love it when you lead with a very emphatic "WRONG", and then subsequently everything that you follow with is wrong. As mentioned a couple of times before, it is the first 20 spots a month up to a quarter of the list in a rolling 12 month period (which the 1/4 max can be waived by Delta).

I just looked up some numbers on WB fleet sizes:

AA - 122 (70-767, 52-777)
US - 26 (16-330, 10-767)
United - 161 (24-747, 57-767, 74-777, 7-787) includes CO
Delta - 160 (32-330, 16-747, 94-767, 18-777)

Seems to me they are pretty even now though Delta has the huge older 767 fleet and the domestic 767 are apart of those numbers but still pretty robust WB fleet.

Emirates already has 126 777s and 199 total airplanes currently, ALL widebody.

Try living in SEA and commuting to SLC to have someone on your jumpseat commuting from SLC to SEA because they make more as a F/O than as 320 Capt in SLC. Hopefully someday I can drive to work as the plug before I retire. Ah another pipe dream...

You want 1600-1730. You get 0630. Guy Junior to you gets 1700. You call to see what happened. "It's just a request. Would you like a 2 hour commute?"
This needs fixed.
Did junior guy YS the 1700 SC? Like be first to be called for SC (the non request). I've had good luck cherry picking SC shifts when I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get stuck with it.

So nothing needs to be fixed. If someone volunteers for SC, and picks their shift, the only thing that should trump that is a like yellow slip.

Why not try and use your seniority to bang out 3 SCs, then use your position in SC bucket 2 to leave the SCs to us junior folk?

I never said anything about yellow slip for a SC. I know how that works.
Everything your saying is true. In my example this was not the case. No yellow slip for SC. They just assign how they want. This is what needs to be fixed. Guy junior to me does not request to be on SC but gets the time I requested if needed for SC. They say they don't have to look at it. SC then get assigned out of Seniority order.

I know we seem to love our crazy crummy hats and double breasted jackets but as a group we haven't been honest with ourselves. Have we given up too much top end scope? I don't expect anybody in the top 33% of our seniority list to respond to that question. They are on their last contract. For the bottom 66%....we need to ask this question. We need to address it when our next contract comes up. Take a look at near peer fleets. UAL has a very impressive wb fleet. UAL has a positive growth plan for their nb and wb fleet. DAL has a bunch of used 717s and a oil refinery. The company is making money. I believe their plan moving forward must be to expand our international footprint through JV. We simply do not have a wb fleet capable of competing.

I'm in the top 3%, with 12 years to go, can I respond?

We, the top 33%, have been screaming about the loss of our wide body flying for a long time. At least 10-15 years. We can do simple math. We understand that when Delta started to code share with Air France, and we cut our flying to Paris, while A/F bought a whole bunch of new 777's to fly to the States, it was not good for Delta Pilots. At one time, 20 years ago, Delta had 55 L10-11's. We don't have that many wide bodies now, after a huge merger!

But Richard knows he cannot compete with Emirates, dollar for dollar, flight for flight, due to their cheaper financing deals through the IMEX bank deals, and all their other cost advantages. They don't ever have to make money, they can (and will) flood any market with cheap, empty seats, and drive the US Carriers out.

Why do you think DALPA and Richard have been fighting this? And who do you think is hurt more when they cut Wide Body flying? Wide Body Pilots, (the top 33%, most of whom are in their mid 50's and still have 2-3 contracts to get through) or 717 pilots?

We all want more wide body flying. Now, how do you propose to force Delta to do it? Oh, and are you, in the bottom 66%, an ALPA PAC supporter? The azzhats in DC make the rules, we need to pay them to see things "Our Way". Sad, but that's what this is about.

Ok thanks for the correction. But end result is still the same, ~110 per year.
