I'm being honest here Joe, I can't help it if my first airplane was a DC-10. And after flying a DC-10 for eight years making up to 6 digits, that I really don't want to go work for your commuter airline making 20 ... 30 grand? You wouldn't either. And as long as the majors are recruiting me to work for them, that's where I'm going.

Why is it that many civilian pilots can't respect the 8 - 10 years that we military pilots put in and they feel that we should start at the bottom? Where is this entitlement that the list for a major starts at their commuter company? Makes no sense to me. The military AND the civilian commuters are BOTH stepping stones to the majors, but the list starts at the major.

<opening up a can of worms>

dude, i think I speak for most to say there is no bitterness from civilian guys towards military. I don't even think it crosses many guys minds. Hell from what I know it's not 8-10 years anymore but 12-14 which is too bad because that's a lot of probably good guys who will just stay in and not come out but you can't blame them. Tack on the high cost to learn to fly civilian and the regional stagnation we'll be lucky to get good guys in the field at all.

But I love military stories. But it's funny, AF guys talk about training and Germany and T38s. The Navy carrier guys just smile, they're happy they lived and there stories are awesome. The P3 guys act like they just came from rancho relaxo and their fun to hear too.

And the civilian guys have good stories too, there is a Dal 73 guy who had Megan fox knock down his door. That guy rocks.

Joe;

As I have stated multiple times, the reason I left EV was not for QOL. I took a real hard look at the business plan, FFD, and the long term viability of 35 more years of that working. It just was not there. I saw maybe five to ten more "good" years of FFD DCIesque flying and then the floor falling out of it.

I have fora long time though that the 70/76 seat market was a great way for the company to keep the true costs of not having a 100 seat jet away from the companies balance sheet. Ergo, it is good to having risk sharing DCI partners for these jets so that when a good 100 seat jet comes around we will just let contracts expire and the DCI lift operators would be holding the bag. I think you will see DAL slowly move towards getting RJ's off their direct balance sheet.

The other beauty of all of it is, the pilots overall compensation goes down, we fight each other, and in the end outsource our jobs. It lets the company win on that front.

Either way, the point was I did not see DCI as a place to hang my hat. Not for me or my family. I was looking long term, not in the next five eight years, but 10 years and beyond. And, yes I had the seniority close to what you had, I was top 300.

Any one that does not respect the sacrifice that a military pilot has made does not understand patriotism.

I salute my military buddies for their continued sacrifice, without them we could not do what we are doing on this board!

Your Bandit had pressurization too...Cam Pundt taught me in 1991 that the air cycle machine could pressurize to .5 psi (didn't believe it then, still dont).

Thanks for sharing your great schedule - that's awesome! Wow!

Just a friendly suggestion, but in the future, I'd craft posts on the Delta thread with a bit more tact - scope is a bit sensitive to 99.9% of us. Also, I wouldn't really go down the military v. civilian path unless you know what you're talking about.

Banning him would be great! Unfortunately thats probably not going to happen so its best just to ignore this guy. He migrated over from flightinfo. Dont let him destroy APC.

The ignore feature here works great! As long as no one quotes him that is.

Ok..Here it goes..

I flew at ASA and flew with Joe Merchant several times on that ATR that I loved so dearly. I am at Delta and can say that being junior at Delta is hands down better than being senior at ASA. I have done both. I truly enjoyed flying with Joe. He got alot of caught alot of SH!t from alot people for rebelling against ALPA and the ASA MEC. He is full of so much information and was truly impressed with his views at that time..

I can also attest to this fact which I am guilty for..

When you are a junior FO at ASA you want as much flying to go to ASA as Delta will give. It meant more lines more planes greater schedule. At that time, I really didn't understand the fact that Delta pilots would be hurt in the long run....

Now Fast forward........

I am at Delta(Dreams do come true), and I wish we did more flying, wish more hiring, wish for more planes..for the greater good of Delta. Plus, I have alot of friends that I would love to see get the same opportunity at Delta.

I know my roots and I would love to see ASA do well, but not at the expense of Delta Pilots..

Joe Merchant..I got nuttin but love for ya and I understand you. Aside from Management and shceduling, ASA was great place to work.

Ok...done now!!!

thanks for reminding me of that feature, he's now on the ignore lists. He does the same thing on flightinfo. He gets into all the major threads he can just to try and ruin the discussions and spread his bitterness.

For any of you guys sitting in ATL with nothing better to do, go to the ATL base visit tonight and ask some questions.

Ask about the 5500 series 757's and their future
100 seat jets
DC-9
LGA DCI/mainline makeup
Long term DCI plans.
190/195
170/175
More 76 seat jets.

Form the questions correctly

It is tonight from 6-8. Check Dalnet for location.
