One surprise of this A.E. was that guys in my seniority are almost back to where we were in 2008 as far as equipment choices and only slightly behind in relative seniority on those choices. They held more on the 7ER and 73N than expected (considering the lack of openings posted). The 5 year forecast for parity was nearly spot on, or two months early.
It makes sense, given the length of this bid, that 717FOs will be new hires. You've got Captain IOE to get done with a LCA in the right seat and the program getting pushed back a month or two anyway.

Bar,
I was pleased. I expected much more carnage in ATL. I was actually quite shocked with how many AEd the B717.

BTW, FTB didn't necessarily enjoy having the APU Air die mid start yesterday. Actually it was cycling on and off but you could barely tell since it was less than enthusiastic packs anyways and we hadn't been on them for very long. But it cycled off after the fuel was introduced with the N2 around 30%.

I think there is some confusion on pay protection for displacements. Normally there is never protection from that. In the Joint TA after the merger they were able to negotiate some limited protections from displacements as a result of the merger. I think it was for only 3 years. There is as far as I know no pay protection now regardless of what you can hold.

You guys are thinking of the pay protection provisions that were in the first JCBA when we merged. Those expired 36 months after JCBAID. There is no longer any such blanket pay protection for MDs.
The only pay protection you get now for a mandatory displacement is if they convert you before someone junior to you who also received an MD from the same category. MDs are converted in inverse seniority order. (unless you volunteered to be converted before someone junior.)

Had the ground crew disconnect the huffer just after they heard the KABUMF of the JT8D's imitation of a Rocketdyne F1. Went right into the aborted start procedure but ... eh ... ah ... Captain, there's no air for dry motoring ... .
Thought something was going to get very toasty back there, but it took it and remained in limitations even![Smile](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Mine was the left engine and I killed it in time. But there was some confusion. After the abort everything was normal including the air. What we didn't realize it was 30 or 40 seconds of air on (just after fuel on) then 10 seconds off. After the qrh we did the second engine, same thing. Sat there then saw the pack go off..
Ahhhh.. we need to go back and get an air cart and MEL something.
