Hockey,
Here is how I handle it, and hope the majority of Delta capts. do the same. I don't leave with open jumpseats that can be filled. I let the gate agent know that as long as a flt attd. doesn't show that the Delta pilot(if not around) will sit in the cabin jumpseat. If they have a problem they can come down and speak with me. So far 100% have had no problem. My guess is you would comply also. I also carry extra yellow crew tags for our own pilots(out of uniform) and FAs and if overhead space is gone I run the bags down and get them on the other end. The Dci's have always been good to me. The only pilots that won't get on my jumpseat are Scabs.

I think I posted this story in a different forum some time ago...
Maybe two years ago I was flying an A-320 from SLC-MSP. There was one DAL jumpseater and two SKYW. The Delta pilot was a VERY senior Captain. (By "Very senior" I'm talking system-wide double digits or darn close to it.) Anyway, he very courteously and graciously gave up his cockpit jumpseat so a SKYW pilot could make the flight. I made a point of thanking that DAL Captain, but more importantly pointed out where he sits on the totem pole to the SKYW pilots. They left very impressed with his professional courtesy. It was a wonderful "life lesson".
That said, I have heard some absolute horror stories from other Delta pilots on the conduct of SKYW jumpseaters.

history of Delta Airlines
FWIW, I really would not trust CLMP ALT HLD while dusting ... and please don't knock out the cell phone towers.
