The company never claims that to ALPA. However regardless of what you believe its in the companies thought process at all times and it actually should be. Their job is to run the best airline they can. If tomorrow they gave us a 50 percent pay raise and funded it by cutting the other employees pay by 30 percent how do you think the airline would function afterword. That is a unrealistic extreme example but the exact same factors play every time we get a new contract or some other improvement.
Last fall a petition went out to many employees and was signed by thousands demanding to know why the pilots were getting so much more then the other employees and why they were not getting equal raises. I saw a copy that described the pilots as the chosen ones! This same phrase was on the flight attendant call in minutes. The head of inflight did a very poor job of responding sadly. She could have pointed out the terminated retirement and larger pay cuts we took but did not.
We as pilots don't live in a vacuum regardless of what some would like to think. Everything in a business is related and tied together. Why do you think management goes to such great lengths to hide their own perks and raises. It all has a impact.

I don't disagree with any of that. But DALPA should take a page from mgmt's playbook and hide as much of our compensation as possible. To an extent, they already have.
I hadn't heard about the petition going around, but it doesn't surprise me one bit. There are many facebook pages that deal with FA issues, and the pilot bashing that goes on there is truly impressive. I hear things all the time like "did you know the pilots get free (GOGO) internet?" "Did you know the pilots get all their dry cleaning paid for (true if past a certain number of days)". The haters are out there. And they are vocal.
When I got hired, one early piece of advice I got from an old salt was "Always remember that YOU wear the black hat". I've always remembered that because he was exactly right, figuratively and literally. You are the pilot. What you say, goes, and the buck stops there. Which means you will always be the bad guy to somebody. I got that attitude when I was a new hire making half what the A-line flight attendant was. I've stopped caring long ago what the other employees think of me, outside of how well I perform my job. Most FA's think that if they'd stayed in class another two weeks, they'd be pilots! I didn't and don't for one minute feel guilty when I opened my orange envelope because if I screw up, everybody dies. Not many people in this world can say that.
I truly hope we can get the FA's back on the cockpit jumpseat to sit through a stormy approach to DCA at night, or a whiteout in ANC. Only a few of them seem to realize that their entire day can be ruined if we are having a bad day. I've seen A-lines boss around pilots like Kindergarten teachers scolding a naughty pupil. If you act like you don't matter, if you just take the crap rest seat and no pay until you move, then that's exactly what you'll get. I don't remember the movie, but a good line went something like "It's not the money, it's what the money says... that I'm worth it".
Well, that was all probably a lot of B.S., but to answer your question Sailing about how the airline would run after our 50 percent pay raise and their 30 percent pay cut, I'd say: After training the replacements, just fine!

I understand your point, but if Richard was getting a raise, and ALPA went to management and said the same thing - "you know Richard, we are all getting a 3% pay raise next year plus 1% DC, we think for the good of the company there should be a company policy that management should only get the same percentage. And if you're stock option pay say, 10%, you should get no pay raise because you got your compensation some other way".
hey would reject that in a second. Management would say, "we need to pay management high dollar so we attract and retain top personnel".
The "Me too" line only works because ALPA allows it to work. We do not do the same job as FAs and should not necessarily get paid the same way.

IOW, Horton is being rewarded for his horrendous performance. Gotta love the "good ole boys" club. What a joke.

If they are serious about improving quick turns perhaps they can give stand-down orders to the Aircraft Cleaners Brigade.

You mean the sane and rational position held by a majority of Delta pilots outside the broken promise generation?
There must be like...63% of pilots collecting FPL.
I know it feels good to find people with your extremist views. But what's so wrong with agreeing with ALPA? You must really want all those dues dollars back. Really, really bad.

Who/What constitutes the Broken promise generation and is that a mainstream view?

They didn't want to make the statement, but someone on the AA Bankruptcy Creditor's Committee is trying to deny poor Horton his $20Million.
That's why AA is now trying to justify it. (from the article)
"After the merger is completed, Horton will be replaced by US Airways Chief Executive Doug Parker and will take the post of board chairman for the new airline.
But the trustee overseeing the bankruptcy objected to the payout, saying that bankruptcy code requires the airline to first explain why it is making sweeping changes to its payment policies."
