Lot's and lots of %'s on my bid...

Well, I wish you luck. The sad truth is, Sh!t rolls downhill... There are 15 767 Capt.s senior to me on the ATL 767 Domestic. Each and every one of them could (and may) MD to the 777A in ATL. That will push me down 15 places, while pushing 15 off the bottom. Those bottom 15 will cascade down into other categorys, and push more out the bottom, all the way down to the 717.

That category may be entirely filled by MD's. At least they won't be seat locked for 24 mo.

yo, that's senior.

And just keep this in perspective, here is the top of ATL DC9 A as of right now... 3843 3886 3928 4172 4379 4574 4736 4810 4876 4971 5242 5246 5627 5706 5790 5791 5813 5940 5949 5968 6005 6013 6022 6039 6059 6146 6254 6372 6391......

I could only imagine the 717 with it's cockpit would garner even more love.

Ya know, I wondered the same thing. I went to college in Troy and know exactly where that place is. In fact, drove past it this summer between vacations. It it literally the worst location in the "Capital District Region" to be - you could be in downtown Schenectady (same drive time), which is a (a) nicer college town and (b) nicer downtown from I remember. Shoot - put us by the Mall near the airport where I stayed with COEX - at least we could walk across the parking lot to the mall and get something to eat.

ATL is senior. No doubt about it.

I could bid over from 80% on the 88 to 25% on the DC9. I won't do as well on the 717 and am not planning on anything better. No summer off for me.

This could be a very ugly bid for everyone on the MD88 or higher paying aircraft in ATL. It'd been a great time to open that freaking why in the hell have they not done it yet MCO 7ER base. How many people do we have overnight there every night. Having an MCO base would be a major win for every other base in the system except maybe SEA/LAX.

I guess if TRI, CHA, and AVL with 5 legs a day is attractive with the DC-9 cockpit:

...then there is nothing holding them back from doing the 717. Unless you really like shoveling coal. Then the MD-88 or 737 is for you.

(that picture is obviously on taxi out with the CA bored looking over at the FO frantically shoveling coal)

It's a nice cockpit. I was an intern at TWA back in 2001, shortly before and during the AA purchase, and got to go through ground school on the 717 and fly the sim a bit...this was also pre-9/11 when interns could jumpseat, so I went somewhere every weekend. The funny thing about the 717s is that almost all the captains were long-time DC9 drivers ...and many of them flew the 717 just like the DC9, glass notwithstanding! Hand-flew all the way to and from cruise altitude, and I saw a couple of guys keep it in heading mode the entire time at cruise! Didn't trust that newfangled nav mode....

And now after the long strange trip of TWA-AA-FL-SWA-DAL, they're back at an airline where they'll be largely flown by ex-DC9 drivers!

He's busy getting the pressure up to start #2 on the taxi from Ramp 1 to 9L-M2.

I saw the same thing when I checked out as F/O on the 757/767 in 1989. All the Capt.s were coming off the 727, and had never seen glass, so they flew it just like a 727, in raw data, all the time, oh, and they never touched the FMS, the'd just point at me and say, "Load that for me, wouldja?"

Speaking of a "summer off", too bad we didn't get the 787 after all.
