I think the SD sales job subject has been beaten to death at this point.
The TA was a sales job, but we're past that now.
I'm just spitballing here. I think a logical scenario may be that flight ops and DALPA very well anticipated hiring as a result of the 717 being brought online, but got resistance from management. If even half of the "latest and greatest" rumors come to fruition it will look like we will be understaffed by summer 2014.
It's not secret RA wants to be the world's largest carrier once again and I think acquiring/merging with another group (my guess HA) is looking more and more likely. Regardless, I don't see anything happening until the AA/US Air merger is finalized and certain parts broken or sold off.
Can't think of any other reason why flight ops would want to hire while management gives them pushback to hold off.
Just a guess here. It will be interesting to see how the west coast feed pans out. As I understand it DAL was never able to make a strong play out west.

NBC news and the Carnival Cruise Debacle(s)
While not mentioned by name, while Brian Williams was telling the story of how Carnival flew 4300 people out of SMX, they had video of a Delta a/c landing "over the beach". Good, free publicity.
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.
ps Not only are the new phone books here, but "he's mad at the cans"! I try to live by the three rules Navin's father taught him.

Not to put you too far off topic, but if you are sitting short call with nothing better to do, turn on Speed Vison channel today, you'll see the 12 Hours of Sebring LeMans race, live, starts in a few minutes.
