The company talks about the 88 guys quickly converting to the 717. They have beat it into us that we are over staffed and they foresee the 88 - 717 conversion really helping bail them out with respect to the training demand. I am curious what the "Bob's" have in mind if the majority of 717 guys come from other airframes. The company seems to have put most of their eggs in one basket here.

The 9 hours prior to the end of rest is when the company has to have something on your schedule if its going to be less than a 12 hour call out at the end of your rest. So if you're free from duty from 1200-1200, by 3am base time they have to have anything that reports before 0001 the next day on your schedule.

So you're not obligated to check your schedule, you're just on the hook for a short call out at the end of rest.

Default SEA Base Visit

I do wish there was a way to share the info with DAL pilots only. Nothing earth shattering but enough stuff it is best not to put in a public forum.

Basic info

DAL is out right beating our competiton and business travelers are responding.

Flt Ops wants to hire (bid was delayed while Flt ops tried to prove the need to hire, but did not win). Hiring is slated to start JAN 2014. This summer is going to be busy. But nothing like pilot needs in 2014, Hence the need for pilots as soon as the green light is given.

Network is maximizing SEA LAX. We will provide the feed AS cannot give and we will protect our flying and feed with DAL metal. RJ building of market and switching to DAL metal is working and will be used aggressively.

Over all positive. I will answer any PM from DAL guys if you have specifics I will answer the best I can...

Feeling good that I will not be commuting for much longer!

If you have a freeze, you can bid out to your first captain position or any new or re-established category. You still get a freeze for the new category you go to. Here's the relevant language...

A pilot who is under a category freeze and who has not previously completed training for a mainline Captain position shall nevertheless be eligible to be awarded a Captain position. In such event, the balance of such pilot’s existing category freeze shall be added to the category freeze resulting from the Captain position award

41. “Category freeze” means a period of time
a. that is determined under Section 22 G.,
b. that commences on the date of a pilot’s award of an AE or VD for which qualification training is required or on an entry level pilot’s date of employment with the Company as a pilot, and
c. during which the pilot will (unless declared eligible by the Company) be ineligible to be awarded another AE with an earliest conversion date falling within the freeze period (other than to a new or reestablished category) for which qualification training is required.

Thanks, Fiig! Was it "we have a feeling that the hiring process could possibly begin in Jan 14?" Or a little more concrete than standard?

hey do you guys know how they will fill a new category, ie ATL 717? Do they have to train in seniority order of people bidding TO the 717 or is it based on the seniority of what you are bidding OFF of? I am being displaced and am near the bottom of my current category. Would be nice to be trained early and not fly for a month.

I could be wrong but I think the way it works is that the volunteers go first, then the mandatory's train in reverse seniority order. You might have more than a month off. I know a guy whose bidding it so that he can ski/snow board in South America all summer. Good gig if you can pull if off.

Of course, when its all said and done, you're flying the 717.

Look at deltanet for the AE FAQ documents, it specifically addresses your question. I think they have been emailed as well. I'd try to explain it, but I wouldn't do it justice. I think Buzz is pretty close to the right answer.
