I still think it's Jet Blue. We get A320s, and own the east coast lead turning AA.
Then we have to divest a ton of slots in JFK (and probably a few in LGA too) but not after 2013 pilots at JB are slotted in above our 2001-2010 pilots, and their 2001 hires slide in to the first pages of our list. Then we lop off the bottom dozen or two pages because of the forced divestures, which are 95% former DL pilots.

Maybe, if we time it right, we can even pay into ALPA to help them wage that battle against us with our own internal merger policy they just became a part of with 2 seconds left in the 4th quarter.

That depends on how we structure the deal on the front end.

DBA Loganville Holdings, Inc, LLC, etc, is one way to go with it.

That said, they are on the verge of another ALPA drive there right now. If it passes this time, it will be precicely because they want ALPA resources and merger policy because of iminent merger threats. If they merge with an ALPA carrier, they would have been ALPA anyway at the end of the day, but in the meantime ALPA pays for their relative windfall attempts (with a fair chance of success). Of they merge with a non ALPA entity like AA/SW, ALPA pays for their merger battle and at the end of the day they won't be ALPA anyway.

Lose/Lose for ALPA either way. Devistating for an ALPA pilot group that has to merge with them. Absolutely devistating.

McCaskill-Bond mandates binding arbitration if a SLI isn't agreed to amicably which it certainly wouldn't be. Short of pulling a SWA with having a holding company buy JB, and the real threat of firing everyone, MB gives them some guarantee of integration based on what they can hold, w-2, future expectations, etc.
But only if its clearly a merger. An asset sale, operated separately and phased out, could avoid that. Especially since what was "bought" would be largely divested anyway.

Best to let SW/AA do the heavy lifting on that one (DOJ, pay off NY politicos, etc) and then go for the few scraps later that we would realistically end up with later anyway, rather than gifting a massive seniority wide wind fall to a super young and low longevity pilot group. Why would we do that?

Only for similar transactions. The concern here is that we might be so desperate for NYC marketshare or whatever that we jump into it head first without taking the necessary precautions to protect our current employees first. One would think RA would do it that way, but as or right now its a huge variable. Also, when (not if) JB votes in ALPA late in the 4th quarter with no time outs remaining just to get the internal merger policy, even that stratedgy might not be on the table.

I could see that. Good on them too. Its nuts to be all paper (no matter how "divirsified" that paper may be) with all that's going on and on the horizon.

I was at a promotion party in the fighter bar at the pentagon (which doesn't officially exist, btw) that was attended by reps of the jeremiah weed company. The guy that wrote that song broke out his guitar and sang it for the crowd. I'm not sure how much the reps liked the song, but what choice do they have since fighter guys are just about their only clientele? I got a few free weed t-shirts out of the deal.

BTW, that was the only time I ever stepped foot in the pentagon, and it was after I retired from the AF. Overall, a very good night.

3) Even having the possibility of getting removed from a rotation is not enough for many to bid with LCA's as they do not want to take the chance of the trip not being bought.

4) The give was a one year seat lock on new hires where there previously was not one. It came in line with the rest of the industry. The give was nothing compared to the get for the pilot group. It also cost nothing for the current dues paying line pilots.
Seniority does not and never "entitles" someone to get every month off with full pay because of a loophole technicality. We all pay for that. I get the year seat lock part of it. And I have always been in favor of sufficient protections for recovery flying for any reason.

In the past pilots displace for OE could get a really crappy deal. I think the footprint of their original pairing should be protected iron clad to the minute, with hotels provided in domicile when necessary while on recovery flying. I'd even add in style protections like no red eyes (provided the pairing displaced from didn't have any) etc. But seniority does not equate to an inherent right to get the whole month off, month after month, with the further ability to double/triple dip on top of it. Seniority means you get to pick what you fly based on what's available to pick from. It doesn't mean a right to be off all month with full pay while others get hammered all month.

We fixed a problem (unfair recovery obligations for displaced pilots for OE) with something that, when hiring/training kicks into high gear eventually, will lead to a preferred class of pilots that hardly ever work, while many others work their tails off and everyone pays for that. I'm in favor of capturing the value of the seat lock and anything else we can capture value from. I'm just against how that value was selectively distributed to a small concentration of pilots when the pilot group as a whole has so many broad areas that need improvement. Like our grossly inadequate vacation system daily credit. I'd give the displaced OE pilots adequate protections like mentioned above and put the rest of that value into something that would benefit everyone.
