Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?

For some reason I'm not really surprised that an airplane based in Atlanta, even if it's the lowest paying, would be disproportionately senior.
Even the 9 wasn't as junior as some thought it would be and that's an airplane people wouldn't bid because it requires too much work for the same thing. I think the airline pilot motto is something I learned on the ER... "the key is to see how few buttons you have to press to accomplish the same thing..."

As far as the wide body order being removed from the update, I had heard we were going to announce some 330s and 321s, but the deal fell apart a few days ago - like boeing sweetened the pot or something... I definitely do not have the whole story.[/QUOTE]
A buddy of mine just flew with a LCA who told him the 321's are not gonna happen. Good third hand rumor.

Crap, I don't want to merge minds. I personally think we will continue to continue to displace FO's to "fund" 717s and 737s. I don't think we will hire until winter of 2015. We need to start a giant pool everybody gets a guess. I'll take Feb 2015 for first new hire class. Who's in?
The first 20 717s were "funded" with displacements on this A/E. If C/R is correct, and this is the last bid using displ. to fill vacancies, new hires will need to fill the 717s beginning April 14. It appears 68 of the 717s cannot be manned with current staffing and will require 952 additional pilots by the end of 15. Expect 500 pilots to leave through attrition of all types by Dec 15. This results in 1452 newbies required. DAL is currently "overstaffed" by about 150. Expect 50 furloughs to return. That leaves a need for 1252 new hires by Dec 15.
Where do I send my buy-in money??

I wonder who they have been going to? Many other nations are out buying us in gold by massive percentiles while our future debt interest : GDP ratios are staggeting and getting worse with no end in sight and many other nations signaling the end of the reserve currency spending gravy train.
I know the Church of the LDS has been buying gold from South America for a long time.

Does anyone ever "know" anything in the airline business anyway?
Just doesn't seem like it. Plus reading between the lines with the CS updates is absolutely laced with pessimisim. Back that up with the secret formulaic 22D reports or whatever and the never ending capacity dicipline and yet another JV "partner" and future debt/dollar bubble realities and it doesn't look that great for the next couple years, even if we do finally push 150 or so through at some point. There is potential to be sure, but our default on all levels is perpetual shrinkage with no end in sight.
Oh yeah, the 5 year fleet plan. Cause 5 year plans in the airline industry hardly ever pan out worse than expected.

Seems like RA is using the LCA's and public message boards to negotiate in public again.

What a stupid way to monetize something like that, by creating little seniority bubble empires that grant massive windfalls to only a tiny few while the rest of the pilot group gets hammered, especially the reserves. Especially those who "choose to commute".
But hey, a hand ful of guys will get every day off with full pay and be able to triple dip with green slips on top of it because they were the tragic victims of exactly what they bid for. Weeeeeeeeeee!

Actually, I spoke with the chief pilot this morning and specifically asked if they were going to fill the future vacancies they mentioned with new hires. He said he called crew resources and stated that at this time they had no guidance on filling future vacancies other than no hiring is currently planned. They did say they believed they would eventually hire, but said it ultimatly was not up to them. No time frame on when hiring would begin was given.
That kinda goes with what you said in that ops would like to hire but Mother Delta does not want to. So I can buy that we will eventually hire but at this time there are no plans to fill current or future vacancies. Not arguing with you, they actually supported what you are saying. We will hire someday or attrition will end us.

The question is when and how many.
And when.

Yeah for the few who can do it.

2) Right now everyone flies with LCA's.
3) Even having the possibility of getting removed from a rotation is not enough for many to bid with LCA's as they do not want to take the chance of the trip not being bought.
4) The give was a one year seat lock on new hires where there previously was not one. It came in line with the rest of the industry. The give was nothing compared to the get for the pilot group. It also cost nothing for the current dues paying line pilots.
