1500 base time is the "deadline for placing assignment on the line of a reserve on the last non-fly day prior to on call day." So the 12th is my first day on from a normal X day. The guy in front of me on the list was assigned a trip at 2300 base time for his first on call day. Isn't that a foul?

That is for placing an assignment that signs in prior to 1200. If the trip signed in after 1200, then it was a kosher long call assignment.

I think it might actually be in the works.

Cons:

Hawaiian has a lot of debt, not a very lucrative route structure, doesn't really bring much to the table.

Pros:

We push hiring out another 2 years or more.
Market cap. 330M.
They have 717's.
They have 767's.
They have A330's.
They are getting A321 NEOs.
We could take back a lot of the routes Alaska is now flying to the mainland.
They have a couple of HND slots.
It would increase our market penetration in the Pacific and Australia vs. UAL.

Hawaii is rapidly growing in geopolitical importance with the rise of China and the overall situation in Asia. I would think that at some point in the future, maybe a ways off still, every U.S. airline (assuming there is such a thing) will have a hub in Hawaii.

Maybe the B.O.D. is thinking the same way. Seems VERY odd that the latest crew resources monthly letter was pulled from the DLNet shortly after it was published. There must've been something in there they didn't want or mean to say...
They have one Haneda slot from HNL and tried to get the one Delta just moved from DTW to SEA by applying to fly KOA to HND, but they didn't get it.
HAL is in a different market than what DAL, UAL or AMR are trying to do, no doubt if someone did buy them they would use some of the equipment on more lucrative routes that didn't go through HNL and that would throw the state into a tizzy.
Not sure how China becoming a power makes HAL more valuable. There is so much equipment that can easily fly over Hawaii and of various sizes, I disagree that you will ever see a base in Hawaii save HAL and maybe AKL.
Quite frankly there isn't much that couldn't be initiated by an airline today if they thought the market was worth pursuing.

Actually, the McCaskill-Bond legislation sets the rules for this now. The legislation was passed after what happened with the American/TWA sli. The only way this can be skirted is if you successfully scare a pilot group into waiving their rights under McCaskill-Bond...as happened with AirTran/SWA.

As of Wed, I will have flown every day on rsv this month (typical)... As a result, afterward I will be first up for short call, so again worked around the buckets and still first up to go.

I was hoping for some upward movement on this bid, but with all the displacements continuing, that's unlikely.
It certainly has made it more senior in my category. Most months I get a line is only because senior guys are bidding reserve. As a matter of fact, there are months I can't even hold weekends off on reserve, yet can hold a line.

What was the average seniority of a reserve in your category before and after the change?

I'll do the avoid like you suggested, that's smarter. New at bidding lines.

Thanks for the help. Oh wait a minute, herk are you really a pilot or did pbs get artificial intelligence ( like gunship said earlier) and create a screen name?

Dude, next month submit your bid and then call the call center for some tweaking. You've got some refining to do.

I-crew only shows next day awards. If you put a blind pick up/ swap with the pot and something drops into open time 2 weeks out, you could be awarded it and there will be no computer trail showing in i-crew. There is a lot more open time churn than guys believe because they can't see it.

Didn't Gary Kelly threaten to keep them separate then furlough every single pilot if they didn't agree? Has McCaskill-Bond been enforced yet? I know the purpose is to prevent another abuse like AA-TWA.

The answer is in the question grasshopper... (ultra bad 70s TV show reference)... Someone will drop or swap for a trip at the start (read senior) part of the PCS run, and someone down the line will have a blind white slip or swap in, for just this scenario, to grab a better trip before it gets to the open time pot for all to see and try to possess.

I've put in blind/wishful white slips and swaps for better trips, on occasion it works, and a better trip is the result, all for the cost of only a few keystrokes.

Hope that explanation helps.

Ha, there was a little more to it then that... but not much more.

Daily trip coverage shows WS and swap with the pots ask the way to the end of the month. I don't know how far back I can look lb daily trip coverage reports but I know looking at yesterday's you can see everyones WS and swaps for the month that they were awarded that day. Is that what you mean?
