I think it might actually be in the works.

Cons:

Hawaiian has a lot of debt, not a very lucrative route structure, doesn't really bring much to the table.

Pros:

We push hiring out another 2 years or more.
Market cap. 330M.
They have 717's.
They have 767's.
They have A330's.
They are getting A321 NEOs.
We could take back a lot of the routes Alaska is now flying to the mainland.
They have a couple of HND slots.
It would increase our market penetration in the Pacific and Australia vs. UAL.

Hawaii is rapidly growing in geopolitical importance with the rise of China and the overall situation in Asia. I would think that at some point in the future, maybe a ways off still, every U.S. airline (assuming there is such a thing) will have a hub in Hawaii.

Maybe the B.O.D. is thinking the same way. Seems VERY odd that the latest crew resources monthly letter was pulled from the DLNet shortly after it was published. There must've been something in there they didn't want or mean to say...

Aren't the aircraft at Hawaiin leased and not owned? Isn't that why their market cap stands at $320M? We can buy jets more easily then that.

On resv this month and with three days of availability this week I YS a three-day trip. Then I think I might be able to improve my schedule if I take an X-day from later in the month where I have four days availabilty and move it to the day after this YS trip. I'll be in bucket two after this trip, and would likely not be used this Friday if I moved the X-day. But PBS is sooooo far ahead of me. It knew to give me a rest period after this three-day so I couldn't move the X-day. No need for rest period, mind you, with three days off before these reserve days and then one X-day and a week of vacation after the 3-day trip. And no, it definitely wasn't a scheduler who figured that out--they can barely understand why the computer does its main duties. I think PBS is now running on artificial intelligence.
Totally lost you on this post. PBS only provides your initial line award. It has nothing to do with anything scheduling related after providing you that award.

Someone refresh my memory. For a front end deadhead are we supposed to book our own seat thru travelnet via company business? Thanks

Yeah, I thought about that when I wrote it...was lumping it with the system scheduling uses to do its job. That and I think I called an X day a reserve day, so that didn't help paint a clear picture. I don't have a name for their scheduling system, but let's go with HAL.

Basically, IMO, they've got HAL tweaked to the point that I believe it realized that after giving me a three day trip for the three days I had available this week (T-W-Th) it would be smart to stop me as a reserve guy from moving the X day I had on Fri to a spot later in the month. How did it accomplish that? By slapping a rest period on after the trip. There's no reason for it to do that. I've never seen that happen before. In the past, I've gotten rest assigned after a 3 or 4 day trip, but that was when I had seven days or more of reserve, and it was putting the rest in their to give me the break I was required. But after just three days of flying with no flying in the past 3+ days?! The Fri after this 3 day is an X day, and then vacation. So I think the rest was put in there so I couldn't move the X day from Fri to a 4 day reserve stretch I have later in the month (thus giving me 3 days availability instead of 4, and decreasing my chances of getting assigned flying. In effect, I was trying to game the system by putting a reserve day on the end of this trip, which would give me about a 4% chance of getting SC or flying. HAL figured that out and threw REST on there, which blocked me from moving the X day. Maybe not mud now, but a little less murky?

I haven't tried this technique all that often, if ever, for this situation. Maybe it's common to get rest assigned when this happens.

Is saying to pbs Award trips = 3 days else start next the same as saying do not award 1-2 day or 4 day trips? Or is that saying just give me 1 3- day trip and make the rest of them whatever you want?
