One public example was allowing the ALV on the MD-88 fleet to be out of compliance for 3 months. We picked up 3000 block hours per month of flying formerly done by ASA.

Excellent excellent post, although I would like to see some new blood and not "ALPA-ized" guys that will learn from mistakes past instead of saying "we couldn't know at the time" and letting that be it.

It's just a weak attitude and very dissapointing seeing that from my leadership.

That ALV increase was to hold off the 767 displacement for the SLI more than anything. Next...

Nope. But a naysayer like you can apparently find fault with anything done on your behalf.

Seriously.... this is why you don't get far with people on here or the DALPA forums.

The reason for the ALV was explained to me by the higher ups as to hold off the original displacement for the shift of flying to the md-88 and reduced hours on the 75/76. Again, did DALPA's actions help park the CRJs, or was it simply the economy?

I'm hardly a naysayer. I agree with the vast majority of things that DALPA done during my tenure here, and I'm not a "single issue guy" by any means. When one of my leaders says something like that, I'm not going to keep my mouth shut, though.

I have nearly 4 decades left with this company, and I want my leadership to do everything they can do make it a worthwhile time. I've been around this stuff for most of my life and have seen it whittled away bit by bit due to many factors.

What does it mean if you volunteer to fly Military Airlift Charter? What is the comment line on the MAC data page for?

If he had said that, his would have been a lonely voice. Every pilot under age 50, understandably, urged the senior guys to "take your lump sum and retire". As expected, a great deal of seat advancement took place. The severe underfunding of the pension plan was not disclosed to DALPA at that time, although it should have been.

You seem to think that every guy that cares about scope is blind to all other "successes" of this MEC.

I personally think that LM and the MEC has done a good job of looking around corners and avoiding the proverbial stray bullet, but when it comes to Scope, I just do not get it.
The number one reason for a union is to protect our jobs, not outsource them. You can argue that no one is on involuntary on furlough, so he has done his job, but we need to look at real pilot numbers for the last decade. (Resolution directing the reps of 44 if you will)

Want another issue? We gave up maybe 2500 positions with the advent of PBS and some work rule changes. That probably saved the company 2-3 billion a year. I think that we should get some of that money back.

This is how I see it. Pilots care about Pay, Scope and Retirement in that order. Fact is that they are three legs of a bar stool. You have to have the other two to make the third work. Ergo, If you want better pay, you darn well better have awesome scope. To have retirement that you can like, you better have the pay to allow the correct percentages to allow you to retire, and a enforceable section 1 to make sure that pay and retirement are not whittled away at the first chance.

Over the last seven to ten years one or more of these legs has been missing, and as a result the stool cannot stand up.

Just remember that our best thinking has lead us to this point.
