Sailing,

We don't need a change to age 65 to stagnate or move backwards - We have proven we can do that on our own. In the summer of 2001 (pre-911) I was displaced off the panel on the 727 when the LAX 727 base was closed.

Not to worry I was displaced to the 737B in SLC and was projected to be about 1/3 from the bottom of the the seniority list. Pay was about 150.

12 years later I am still a 737 FO making about 140. In over 12 years I have moved almost 1/3 the way up a NB category list -its been a great 12 years.

It is what it is. Not really anybody's fault, but I am getting tired of hearing great things are from senior guys. Whats worse is that for the last 5 years I (and hundreds of other FO's) have actually been moving backwards.

Retirements and even early retirements don't really help the bottom guys but can be a windfall for the top guys:

Hypothetical numbers:
Top 25% - Retire early.
2nd Quartile - are now the top 1/3 Windfall
3rd Quartile - now the middle 1/3 Slight improvement
Bottom Quartile - now the bottom 1/3. Still on the bottom.

We all get 5 extra years. Captains get 5 more years as a Captain. FO's get 5 more years as an FO. Not the Captains fault, but don't tell me how great DAL is for the Pilots. The frustrating thing is we keep being told - its getting better, wait for the next bid etc - its getting old.

Like I said, it is what it is. Oh well - we will get em next time.

Due to the lack of positive JuJu surrounding the AD (Advance Displacement), here's something to lift our spirits.

DELTA: This TA is a one shot deal. If you vote yes, we will get 717s and we may hire.

DARMA/DALPA: The TA is a one shot deal, vote it down and don't expect a contract for years. If ever. Time value of money, bye bye 717.

THE OTHERS/APC Crowd: I doubt that. They could make changes and get it back to us for another vote fairly quickly. We have time. Time is on our side.

DARMA: You Idiots/Liars/Punks/New Hires/Carl, no way, RA would lose all credibility in that case and we'd know from now on vote down the first offer knowing the second will be better. No way. They can't afford that, credibility is too important. This is a one shot deal. Take it to bed or lose it forever.

...

But what about saying we may hire this year if you vote this in? Or taken for face value, you vote this in and we'll hire! What about that credibility next time around?

Oh well.

Yep. And now we have recent statements made to analysts made by management claiming that this contract signifies a permanent wage and benefit reset. Would love to hear what DARMA says about that

CRAAAAAAP! Looks like I'm in the same boat too! Sheesh! I just finished training and am most likely going to be displaced with 9 SEA330A surpluses.

Yeah, it ain't lookin' good...........Looking on the bright side, I did get a A330 rating........I just won't have much time in it...... I'll be in the middle of my TOE when I, more than likely, get displaced. How's that for timing?

I believe the younger (Son) is. I was referring to the older (ret. DAL)
