Here's the thing:
You've obviously come to terms with the "new normal". You've accepted that 9/11 and all the bankruptcies have permanently reset the airline piloting profession to a lower economic level. That's great and in some ways I envy your contentment. You must be a better investor than most of us. But,
Some of us were still holding onto hope that this profession would someday soon be restored to the pre-9/11 standards of compensation and quality of life.
This last contract was just very disappointing in that it pretty much confirmed that the people who run ALPA have also accepted the "reset" paradigm.
They jammed through these work rule concessions and what were basically "cost of living" wage hikes when many of us were hoping for far more. We kinda thought the corporation's emergence from bankruptcy would also mean the pilots' emergence from our bankruptcy contract. When it didn't happen it was tough to take.
The posts on this forum simply reflect that frustration. Let's face reality. We're not seeing any real gains in our purchasing power as a result of our "raises" and the seniority list remains stubbornly stagnated. Despite your apologist posts I think its pretty clear to most guys that the new work rules and all these JVs and codeshares have allowed the company to postpone any hiring or significant advancement. You lose some credibility when you deny that.

I like results not chest puffing and hot air.

Agreeing to any concessions when the company came to us early explains to me why DPA is so popular. The excuse for res going to ALV plus 15 because of long WB trips is weak. Ever hear of the tail wagging the dog? Just letting those long trip be split like NWA did instead of giving a concession was the answer.

Diegos, which is directly under the South end train stop (around gate 18) has some great take out salads. They are not the typical airport salads (6 inches of lettuce underneath 1/2 inch of the good stuff) but are actually very substantial . The Santa-Fe Chicken salad is my favorite and they also give a discount.

I know...seafood in a Mexican place at an airport...what could possibly go wrong? But they are darn tasty. I was completely surprised.
National Coney rocks. Breakfast all day. The breakfast special is a pile of food and pilot priced.

The Mexican place on the north end has fantastic crab cakes.

I've got to go up there tonight for a flt. out tomorrow. Is Wok and Roll in MSP, or is that DTW? I don't get to either place very often, but I'll be looking for a good lunch tomorrow.

Probably explains why she had that look we all have after a great approach but a bad landing. Nobody to blame but me.

It applies to any long trips including 4 and 5 day domestics. We can ask the company to change it but I suspect the will want the offsets they gave us back. Reserve utilization was looked at long and carefully when this was agreed to. Actual data and schedules were used not idle speculation. It is going to have minimal effect. The 1 hour yearly increase in average ALV and 30 day months will have a larger effect.

Maybe we're just moving closer to the FA's system? Everyone holds a line and is on reserve.

I agree. I felt the same way about adding the 7th short call. ALPA's response was that we were actually going to be doing less short call on the wide-bodies because the periods will be 14 hours instead of 24. On the domestic side, the period are going from 12 hours to 12 hours. Again, the domestic side is getting a huge concession due to the new FAR's and ALPA's inability to say no. Imagine that.
