Bar, for sale does not mean that they will not shrink them.

I hope that DAL has learned that making long term DCI contracts is bad for the business, and does not allow them the flex they need from third part carriers. If they do sell them, I hope for shorter and more flexible contracts.

It does not take a genius to realize that DAL is changing the way DCI works for them. That unto itself makes the price of the WO carriers go way down.

That having been said, I think Republic is jumping without a net. They figure it is "get big or die trying" time, which didn't work so well for Braniff. Frontier is a gimme, if they can run it and maintain the positive cash flow. I still can't figure out what they are thinking with MidWest unless Delta is propping it up via code share, or some other arrangement.

I think the small jet divisions of Delta are still for sale, despite the "we don't like all this outsourcing" talk from Flight Operations management.I think they like the idea of a alter-ego DCI carrier flying large jets. Gives management leverage in C2012.

Everyone has read my argument about how bad scope leads to a declining trend in pay and benefits on bigger airplanes, so I will not belabor this explanation again. "Lines in the sand" just are not effective ... we must own the beach!
AS I said about 15 pages ago, yesterday BTW, you have your chance to begin to change the voice via your MEC elections. There is one in Atlanta and Detroit this year. Choose wisely.

That's the conundrum and the reason why they have been difficult to sell.

Exactly.

I think that now that DAL has three WO, they can get rid of or sell one of them, and that might be the plan. Oct is coming rather quickly....

Great line Bar. I think I'll borrow that for future scope discussions with the Skipper's who are not informed.

Yes, I'll be making it easy for people to fill out their cards and reminding them to do so.

But, when even good candidates get around the MEC they sometimes come back saying things like "this flow through isn't so bad." Short of having your Candidate promise to keep copies of "Flying the Line VOL I & II," as well as "Labor Law in a Nutshell" next to their commode, I don't know how you keep them oriented. Something about Virginia Avenue causes nearly instant AHRS alignment problems and they forget where their standby Compass is located.

ACL65, your thoughts?

I would like to see Delta ALPA put the pressure on management to stop feeding profits to the competition (Republic/Frontier). This new deal crosses the line. That flying should be done by the wholly owned carriers, where the profit goes back in the pot, not into Bedford's pockets and Frontier's bottom line.

Perhaps some of the mainline pilots can talk to their reps about this serious conflict of interest?

I would submit while not being a end all solution, that the flow has gone a long way toward preventing furloughs here. The first step has been taken, IMO. Now, while they think that the flow is good enough, I would take issue with them. It was a start, and "starts" need "finishes".

Blaine - what people seem to be overlooking is that the flow is an endorsement of furloughs and outsourcing. It facilitates and provides a mechanism to flush pilots. Further, the flow has been a unhappy failure at US Air, American and United.

Clearly the preferred mechanism is to have them on our list and take that flying back to Poppa. Which has worked out better for American pilots? TWA or Eagle?

Sorry for the thread creep! Sorry for the thread creep! What a preposterous statement. Thread creep to a post is like a genetic mutation to DNA - it is the vehicle that allows change, adaptation, evoloution, and ultimately survival.

Could this thread have survived if it was about one topic and one topic only? Would anyone want to read a "jillion" posts on one topic - it would be like homework.

I say follow the thread wherever it take us. Should it veer off course and take a detour not too popular amongst the regulars, say for instance a detailed discussion about the effectiveness of womens hygeine products, it shall unerringly be brought back on course by some juicy rumor, some supposed outlandish management proclamation, or dare I say it - some Noble gesture of DALPA (think Scope).

In a world without thread creep (said in that TV announcer guys voice) we would have thread stagnation. So do not bemoan the occasional humorous diversion, the seemingly unrelated sports bravado or the much too infrequent hot college babe pictures. Roll with it.
