Ha ha. I remember that. You guys were good. Very professional. I'm glad you made your flight. Scheduling made sure I made it to LAX that night. It was good to feel needed.

Yup, we were going to have 737-600's, 700's, and 800's, along with the 75/76 fleet and 777. We had tons on order and option. The plan was also to combine the 767-400 and 777 fleets because there was a clause in the contract to blend the pay rates. Not many guys knew that little tidbit. I was a 727 F/O instructor at the time flying my trips as a 727 A out of NYC. That brings back my memory of my first trip as a Captain in NYC. In a Noreaster. First leg snowing like hell and Andy Rooney on our flight. He stuck his head in the cockpit and said "whatever you do, please don't thank us for being patient".

Not sure I follow you about what I already understand from past posts? But lets continue this discussion when the next AE comes out and then we will have known quantities of displacements and vacancies for the initial 717 and 73N. Hopefully vacancies will exceed displacements.
I agree with your premise.
I disagree with your conclusion.
Since the merger, we have changed our class 2 waypoint crossing procedure FIVE times.
I've flown a bunch of planes. I've flown into mapshift vegas. I've watched for map shifts in south america. I've diverted for loss of nav capability over the north atlantic. The magenta line has never, ever, ever once lied to me.
Standard text is a great initiative on the one hand. The fourth floor changeout will occur and we will change the way we do everything. I would absolutely love it if we didn't.
Actually your going to need to wait longer for that discussion. 3 years from now is when we will know the true effects. This contract really started 6 weeks ago. The bid coming will have to in the end have the same number of displacements as entitlements or something close since we are not hiring. It will however have a net gain in CA slots which is the key. There will be displacements on the FO side but a bunch of FO's will see a first time upgrade to CA. The bid to really watch will be next fall/winter when they have to start covering 5 new aircraft a month.

Exactly. Thing will change again, some academic will publish a paper saying that tailoring procedures for each airplane is better and it's better to learn the airplane specific techniques in the sim rather than on the line. We'll change everything and life goes on.
