Default Wide bodies

Alright, here goes. This is from an old friend at Boeing. Delta wants 10 777-300ER's. Boeing is only willing to sell them at a price too high for Delta. Boeing offered 11 or so 747-400's that are in perfect shape at a low price from their division that handles lease/default situations. Delta said they're not interested because they want the 777-300ER. Boeing wouldn't budge on 777 price, and Delta wouldn't budge on not wanting more 747-400's. Boeing then offered the 11 or so 747-400's at prices less than half of the 777's, and (from what he's saying), Delta accepted. He says we're absolutely stealing the airplanes.

My 2 cents.

There's a reason that the price is less than half. Just kidding Carl, glad you're back.

Thank you Carl! Little rumors like that are the only reason I agonize through all the BS on here, well and for the late great under boob!

"Rubber on the ramp."

The 747 line is running at overcapacity. This means they are making more planes than they are selling. In the very near term, they will have to decide to park the line for awhile or produce unsold jets.

Personally I'd like to see some 747-800s. We need the cargo and people lift in certain markets.

I'd also like to see some 777-300s. Maybe Air France will sell us some of theirs.

Big widebodies produce jobs, advancement and hiring. The only thing the 777 has over the 747 is the ultra long haul 4 man cockpit. That is more jobs, advancement and hiring.

Edit: Oh yeah one more thing. Are these replacement jets for the 787? Just kidding, the fences will be down before they show up.

Carl,

I think your friend is correct. Delta is hiring around 400 flight attendants right now. They are planning to hire 1500-2000 flight attendants for 2014. Why would they need all the extra flight attendants? Connect the dots. Things are going to happen next year that will make all employees happy.

Do you mean 747-800? 747-400 production ended around 2008?
just asking...good news if it's true.

Am I on the wrong thread? Organic growth in SEA and acquiring more 744s?

I'm scared. I'm going to go sell some Delta stock.

That's right...we don't buy new unless they are large RJ's. Still good news.

Gawd I hope that's true, but as usual I'll believe it when they're actually on the property. That steep a discount buys a lot of gas for a number of years to offset the extra operating cost. Any time frame stated?
