When is this going to be announced?
Frankly, I don't see it. I don't mean to sound like a "Chicken Little: The Sky is Falling" conspiracy theorist, but I just don't see the breakthrough yet.
I'm placing a reminder in my iphone to come back to this page the same time next year. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong, hopefully I am, and by that time, hopefully we're hiring gangbusters for the summer 2014 flying. But, with the current group we have inside the beltway, I just don't see it.

- Europe is still in the lou (toilet).
- U.S. government is still printing "fake" money. (with the threat today of discontinuing their fake money push.)
- U.S. expenses exceed revenue because too many are going to their mailboxes for paychecks these days.
- If sequestration does kick-in, there'll be FAA furloughs, ATC shutdowns or slowdowns across the U.S.
- Delta alone is staying "capacity neutral" for at least the next year.
- etc., etc., etc.

[QUOTE=Wasatch Phantom;1357031]GearJerk, et al.
I'll say right up front I've never flown a drone or seen how it's done, I just have my impressions...
That said, I was in the USAF for 8 1/2 years but never flew in combat. I was on probation at DAL when Desert Storm kicked off. I remember sitting in a living room chair absolutely glued to CNN's coverage. The video of the skies over Baghdad was incredible. The night sky was lit up with tracers. They were everywhere. I have incredible respect and admiration for the men who flew through that hell storm and got bombs on-target.
I just can't for the life of me understand how flying a drone can possibly rise to that level. I'm not just using that phrase. I sincerely mean it. I don't get it...
As a military veteran I'm also disturbed by the dumbing-down of ribbons. It strikes me as the military equivalent of the "every child gets a trophy attitude". I can remember not that long ago when you might see some WWI veterans marching in a parade and they'd be dressed in their uniforms wearing all their ribbons...and they'd have three or four. These were men who had fought in combat under hellacious conditions and survived. Their medals were for heroism, bravery, courage, sacrifice, etc.

As a Senior Naval Officer (27 Yrs) I have been dismayed by this for years. In WWII guys were getting Navy Achievement Medals (NAMs) for Combat Operations. I have seen junior sailors getting NAMs for working a food table during a three day conference.
I have no problem with medals for drone Pilots, and I think most here will agree with me when I say it is the precedence of the medal, above combat medals, that is causing the heartburn.

Being a realist and a pessimist are two separate positions.
