I hope mainline grows from this.

That said, Comair has a half dozen 50s on "permanant loan" to other DCI carriers, around 20 sitting idle, and the rest of the fleet are flying around at less than half their traditional daily utilization. Plus 400 surplus pilots in various stages of furlough.

If Delta orders it, Comair could throw 40 aircraft into LGA by next spring.

But if you look at Delta's track record, there's no way those slots will be going to Comair.

Chitaco tried in 2006, Mesa and Pinnacle had their shot last year, so maybe Mesaba will be forced to tackle New York this time? Or Compass, who would be a shoo-in with their 2-class cabins.

There will be no more new DCI jets. Not until mainline grows, a lot. Or the scope is loosened.

SD and Co in SLC today:

"We are not cutting any mainline flights at DCA the 46 slots are all RJ slots we are giving LCC..."

The LGA slots from LCC will be filled by mainline Delta aircraft...

Cheers

The question is "how many LGA slots will be filled by mainline"? I'm a dreamer by nature, but even in my best I don't believe it will all be mainline. That said, Hauenstein knows that to beat JB and AirTran that he must put mainline a/c on their routes. So who knows, routes like ALB, ROC and SYR may yet see mainline DAL planes.

They are taking delivery of 5 brand new A330-200's in the next 8 months.

Sailing,

The "note" at the bottom of the chart on DeltaNet says," [e]xcludes all grounded aircraft, including one B757–200, one DC–9, one CRJ–100, and three B–747–200F aircraft, which were grounded in the March 2009 quarter; and...."

Although I can't say for sure, I would imagine the "one DC-9" they are talking about does not include the countless others that were grounded BEFORE the March 2009 quarter.

I think the guy who has the Delta Air Lines Fan website has a list of what aircraft are where.

Either way, your bias against the DC-9 has shown time and time again. Nowhere on on the Delta site, where you got the chart, said the remaining DC-9's were "sold for scrap." They could have been just plain sold, leased, parked, or even kept for spare parts, but for some reason you said sold for scrap. Unless you can show me where you saw they were "sold for scrap," I'm going to assume you just made it up.....again.

The airplanes might be old, but they fly nice as hell. I'll even go on record as saying that with a little upkeep they could EASILY fly for another 7-10 years. There is no need to sell them for scrap.

If you don't want to fly it, don't bid it. It's a great airplane though.

Tomcat,

I like your style. You are more than welcome over here. I think you will get your chance very soon, as I am beginning to realize that its not the mission of the DC-9 that people have a problem with, it's that there are some people who just don't like the airplane. I looked at the trips. The -9 at NWA did the same stuff that the -88 does/did at DAL. That's a shame.

But hey, the snakes are tasty.

I did not say that RJET would be using those jets for DAL. IMHO LCC wants to sell them and RJET wants to buy them for the MEH operation.

I see this as very convenient since RJET has announced plans to expand the 190 flying for MEH, but has not ordered any jets.

I do not think you will see the 190 in DAL colors unless so very important people have a change of heart. (It will go to DAL mainline if it every came here, so lets just save ourselves 20 pages of ramblings)
