Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?

Guys don't break out the champagne just yet - and here is why:
For years management has been saying how much they dislike the RJ - yet they continually purchased more and larger RJs..
727s, 737-200s, 737-300s, have all been parked, sold, turned into beer cans without any mainline replacement. Management myth - No acceptable 100 seat aircraft exists.
Watch out for this: Management will go to DALPA and tell them that in order for DAL to take advantage of this opportunity they must have 76 seat Scope relief.
Followed by: Our intention is to grow new markets with these 76 seaters and replace them with mainline. I have been hearing this one for years and am not sure that it happened. I think a guy on the DAL boards said in the last 10 years we may have grown one or two mainline flights, and only hundreds lost.
Finally: NYC will be the crown jewel of the Delta system if only we could operate 90/100 seat two class DCI service.
Will we actually grow mainline with this deal? Im sure there will be some more mainline flights. How many more DCI flights is the important issue.
I will remain highly skeptical until I actually see mainline grow. For years I have been reading press releases about new DAL service only to find out they meant new DCI service. Now when I hear of new DAL routes I think of Lucy pulling the football out from Charlie Brown and don't get my hopes up.
There is nothing wrong with a little optimism - but the track record on this sort of thing is not good.

Exactly - they don't have any extra WB acft, and no one is going to loan them money for them. They would have to pull them off of their Atlantic flying to fly NRT at a half the frequency per acft of Europe.

I read in some article that the routes would most likely be Charlotte to Sao Paulo possibly in 2010 or 2011 and Phoenix to Tokyo starting no earlier that 2012. That's a loooong way off in this business!!

If Delta gets those 190s for Republic they won't be able to do announce anything until after March 2010. Per the ALPA contract, 20% of any new DCI jets have to go to Comair until March 2, 2010.
