I commute on JetBlue every week and you're absolutely right. If you're gonna poach cuties from a domestic carrier, Virgin America is really the only choice. I'd put Spirit a distant second.
For all you losers who have screwed today up........words of wisdom from Morgan Freeman.

From a buddy in the crew room visit today...
No hiring until early 14, work in progress on the tablets for cockpit use, widebody future looks good but that still sounds a long way off really..(airbu s 350/787) 88/90 here to stay for a long time. Delta on track to make a modest profit in the first quarter for the first time since 1999 or something lik e that.. There was a couple of senior female fo's questioning the crew resource guy about short call uneven assigning:-) she even showed him an example on her cu rrent schedule...he looked puzzled and didn't have an answer but took notes, so maybe it will ruffle some feathers!

MD-88/90 has 41 more years of life, so don't expect them to go anywhere. Flat panel upgrade approved, all by the end of 2015. But it's only the ADI and HSI upgraded, picture showed engine instruments all the same. The big driver on this database size, very small right now. Also it will allow RNP in the future.
Hiring- 2014 for summer 2014. No budget for hiring in 2013 but that could change in the next 90 days. By "hiring" they means Furlough bypass, Mesaba, Compass. Then maybe Pinnacle interviews and others.
Next bid has been discussed a lot, nothing new but I'd expect lot of 7ER FO displacements. JV flying to smaller European cities (ie, big DL planes to AMS, CDG, small AF or KLM to smaller cities like Berlin) very profitable for Delta, so not much need to 767 flying to TXL, VLC, AGP, BUD, etc). Seemed like a long term problem.
ER Flying: West coast doing Asia, east coast doing Europe, leaves DTW/MSP ER doing domestic. Seemed like the latest plan like they have said.
Tablets won't be an iPad, Microsoft contract too big to ignore. But, even though every other airline using tablets is using an iPad and is approved by the FAA, delta is "working with Microsoft and Jepp to develop software for a Window 8 device" so maybe this year for 717 folks and about 200 test devices scattered around the fleet.

all of this valentines day crap reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons from like 15 years ago almost when Homer and the men from the town convene a meeting at Moe's Tavern to deal with Apu, not an engine but the dude from the QuickieMart, who has been showering his wife with valentines day stuff for days...
Scene: Moe's Tavern
Homer: This Valentine's crap has gone too far!
Crowd: Yeah, etc.
Skinner: Eh, Edna won't even let me clap her erasers.
Sideshow Mel: My Barbara will no longer pleasure me with the French arts!
Moe: The gal I'm stalking had me bumped back to two hundred feet.
Crowd: Aw, Moe. That's too far.
Homer: And ask yourselves, people. Who's to blame for all this?
Hibbert: Well, I guess we are.
Ned: Well, I do take Maude for granted.
Lenny: Oh, I've done some of that myself.
Homer: WILL YOU STOP IT! It's easy to blame ourselves, but it's even easier to blame Apu. He's making us look bad!
And then I think they try to kill him or something.

Now, what about the A320s and nearly half the 752 fleet that will be 30 years or older in ten years? Sorry, the low 1.56 ratio kind of gives me heart burn.

It's like one time I was studying for recurrent and wanted to see everything they wanted us to know about windshear. It only required VOL 1, VOL 2, the QRH, AM and the FOM. Maybe that's gotten better since standard text but geeish.

The FAA approval process cannot be difficult. Sometime during 2005-2008 when tablets/EFBs were new and the process was trial and error, I am sure it took some time. I was involved with EFB certification in 2008 and the FAA had very few guidelines to follow. One day the product would be approved and the next they would come up with some test they hadn't thought of. Since then, enough tablets have been approved so as to lay out a process and guidelines.
Lastly, the RTCA was/is in Atlanta all week on some type of conference. These guys are looking way ahead of what we have now. And by we, I mean all the carriers utilizing an Ipad. An Ipad, as utilized by American, is a really expensive PDF/Chart Viewer. The smart money is on a device that can grow and communicate with the standards being developed by the RTCA through the FAA and other regulatory agencies throughout the world. In the end, Apple fans may not be happy, but I bet we have a more useful tool at our fingertips.
