Question:

If you do a greenslip on reserve, does the credit for that trip get added to your raw score?

I think it was in one of my CQ's a while ago that some management type told our group that buying Alaska as a whole is not really attractive. His reasoning was that because a large share of their passengers are feed for another carrier (American), buying them would be akin to paying full price for half the revenue, but you still get all the pilots and planes.

I'm not an expert, but it made sense to me. I think we should just let Alaska be Alaska, without us, and build up LAX and SEA with 717's and A320's (since they are being underutilized and all).

Organic growth sounds good to me.

And, like others it makes me wonder about a DAL play for Alaska.

The new AMR will be number one in size and I just can't see the Feds approving them buying Alaska. However DAL will now be number three in size and could argue "we need Alaska to stay competitive with AMR and UAL".

Buying Alaska at that point would also cause some hurt to AMR as they would lose that feed. It would put a hole in AMR's route structure in terms of what it can offer corporate customers.

Richard Anderson is a whole lot smarter than good 'ol Wasatch Phantom. I'm sure he's already thinking several steps ahead and I don't see him standing pat as UAL and AMR pass us by.

What people forget is that RA is the same RA that was at NWA. What has changed? We buy used aircraft and retrofit them, we outsource a lot of our flying and more importantly he really doesnt care if he is number 1 or 6.

I would be surprised if this cat will grow DAL organically. Maybe more codeshare, Jv's and career stagnating mergers.

Yes, and you get the days off paid back.

I don't see any big plays by Delta. Just code share/outsource to become the worlds biggest ticket agent. I think their view, with the Airways/AA getting done, it's the final piece of the puzzle to rationalize the industry with the 3 big US carriers (a scenario that has been talked about off and on for decades).

Now their goal is to print as much money as possible, while spending as little as possible on employees and equipment. Good for Delta Air Lines short term, not good for Delta pilots short or long term (read stagnation, shrinkage and carefully metered compensation balanced against more productivity). Union leadership that isn't so fond of being on the "inner circle" with management will be required to get the pilot profession back on track IMHO.
