Snow,
I know its a job requirement but you are being a little too defensive. Did I ever mention anything about DALPA agreeing to the company on this? I have nothing but respect for the DALPA guys - I don't agree with everything they say but overall I think they weathered the storm of the last 8 years fairly adequately.
As far as a positive post a day - here is a freebie: DALPA policies helped cover furloughed pilots medical during the 2002 - 2006 furloughs.

I now expect more RJ flying and at least status quo, maybe an uptick on mainline gauge from LGA. I don't know if they will try to flow traffic through it as a hub, but anything that slows the pace of 767 domestic displacements is most welcome. The 757 is a great load hauler out of LGA.

Also, Airways is gonna keep a half of their terminal... I am not sure if anyone has mentioned that. At least that how it appears to me when I read the info. So we are gonna split that terminal with airways now, and built a connector to our terminal. The best thing about this deal is that there is a much better food court over there.

Futhermore, even if they do put 50 seaters on them those 50 seaters will have to be shifted from somewhere else & that flying will have to be replaced by Mainline. Comair can't cover this increase. I can't believe we have so many negative nancy's on what I think is great news for DAL & it's employees.
Slow,
This is good news and I have no doubt we will see mainline growth as a result. At the same time the Co maintains there is no suitable 100 replacement. They WILL push for more relief and I would not be surprised to see them attempt to link it to this announcement. I also expect DALPA will tell them to stick it where the doesn't shine..
I am also certain that if given the opportunity a suitable 100 seater could be found for the DCI's overnight.
Keep your collective eyes on the ball!!!!

For years management has been saying how much they dislike the RJ - yet they continually purchased more and larger RJs..
Followed by: Our intention is to grow new markets with these 76 seaters and replace them with mainline. I have been hearing this one for years and am not sure that it happened. I think a guy on the DAL boards said in the last 10 years we may have grown one or two mainline flights, and only hundreds lost.
There is nothing wrong with a little optimism - but the track record on this sort of thing is not good.

# of new aircraft delivered to DCI carriers in the last 10 years?
# of new aircraft delivered to Delta in the last 10 years?
I am glad to see us secure more real estate at LGA. Make no mistake, Mngt. WILL OUTSOURCE OUR FLYING to the greatest extent possible. I really hope Im wrong, just haven't seen lots of new perty jets at mainline yet. But damn, those compass and pinnacle jets are really spiffy.

According to Delta's 1Q 10q report there were a total of 71 DC-9's in the fleet. 67 flying and 4 in storage. All the others were sold for scrap. I have not seen the 2Q or 3Q numbers but they should be out there somewhere.

Man Sailing, what is your beef with the DC9? I bet you came up with the nickname 'Furlough Jet'. Every chance you get you sling mud at the DC9. What's the deal?
Sailing,
We had 90 some DC9s a year ago. Can you cite source that they are no longer in storage?
Scrap eh? You almost seem to take pleasure in that proposition. I hope they are in storage because if they are not then we have nothing to back fill the extra LGA flying with. Additional block hours are a not a cure all for a stagnant fleet when you need to expand.
Like Scoop said how many new acft have we got in the last 10 yrs? When the block hours don't fill the gap where will management turn?
If those 9s are gone for good better hope the 90's show up by next summer.
