That is one exhausting day!

In the -200, you're right! In the -400 they were actually surprisingly high, especially at Flaps 15...big long fuselage means you scrape metal about +7 degrees of pitch, even at ~140 kts you're coming in at about +3-4 degrees with Flaps 15 . You flare that plane by adding a bit of power and pitching down! Even if you do everything right, 3 out of 10 landings result in pax clutching their backs as they leave the airplane. Stiff, straight main gear doesn't help.

So about a year before I left, geniuses in flight ops decided they're going to prevent a tail strike by banning Flaps 15 landings, except when required (ie hot and high, or Cat III approaches). Result: we got rusty on the fast flaps 15 landings until required in the heat of battle, and as I recall about 6 months later we had a Q400 go off the end of a 10,000 ft runway in SEA following a Cat III approach to 600RVR.

I dunno, I get more exhausted in one leg on the DC9 jumpseat just watching that poor crew work!

Buzz?...
I thought buzz flew the star lizard aka the C-141 aka The Tube of Pain. The C-5M has new hydraulics new engines new pneumatics and new avionics, no reason it cant get airborne now. I flew the new avionics with CPDLC and ADS-B, very nice with 6 big screens in front of you. Then I came to the airlines and flew the Maddog. Talk about regressing a few years.

This means I was wrong again. With the 9's going on this AE, the addition of 100 B-717 crews don't really make up for it. Add (really subtract) on to that that they are trying to figure out what to do with the 767 FO positions, looks like this is going to be a net negative AE. 20 B-737 crews in DTW helps a little to bring it to neutral, but just a little.

Where is Bill Lumberg?

Yep, I'm a Star Lizard commander with a deep disdain for Fred. I flew my arse off because Fred couldn't. A C-5 flying? Whydda think there was a dude with a camera? It's like finding Nessie (aka the Loch Ness Monster for all you young RJ kids).
