I hate daytime layovers before a red-eye! Flight in the morning, layover, all nighter at the end, yea that makes sense.

Yup. CVG *****ed for years about fares. Now, they have little to no service and three terminals are less than one. If there was a viable market there, there would be service. Not even SWA is going in. Comair is gone. DHL is a ghost. Pick your poison. Have fun connecting through Dayton.

Actually DHL is a beast there. While not as mighty as MEM/SDF, it is a huge facility and that airport board had better be kissing their rear ends on an hourly basis to keep them there. Even DL still has a far bigger presence there than any other carrier ever would as far as non stops are concerned. The airport board and that dellusional CEO had better get a grip on reality and sustainability and get off the pork/stimulus fantasy crack pipe and kiss up to DL as well.

Capacity dicipline only works to the extent that everyone goes along with it. But you have to be willing to take some casualties on yields here and there to prevent the cancerous growth of market share poachers that violate capacity dicipline, even if its relative to your markets.
Frontier is struggling for relevance and survival, and they are fighting a multi front war against two superior superpowers, and now they are picking a fight with a third. DL has to fight the enemy on DL's terms. Right now, while the profits are rolling in, is the perfect time to make them bleed. Hard. DL (and others) are also going after VX and JB, as well as severly outflanking AT/SWA in ATL and forcing a significant retreat.
Yields are great, but sometimes turf has to be defended. Its refreshing to see DL show some teeth, even if its not as frequently as it could be. This isn't 2002 anymore. So called "LCC's" can't just come in wherever they want and grow on their terms.

After reading the latest crew resources update, the big question that popped into my mind is...how junior will DC9A go if most or all of the current 9 guys bid to the 717? Could be a chance for some very junior guys to sneak into a captain seat, if you are not afraid of steam gauges.
That made me go peruse the 9 bid pack again, which made me want to puke. I wouldn't even consider it, but college bills are looming large.
On that note, I rode a 9 to work the other day, and I swear both of the pilots looked like they were 70 years old. I thought it must be OE, but the right seater was wearing FO stripes. I'd worry about calling them out on-line, but they probably don't know about the internets yet.
I'd probably look like that after a couple of years of DC-9 flying.
