Off Topic: Reserve pay while Sick: Hello all, I am on reserve most months and curious as to how sick pay factors in to the pay equation. Is it ever possible to get payed over the reserve guarantee by calling in sick on your reserve days or do they always prorate the days sick by what the average reserve credit is for a day on call? Someone just told me that the regular pay for the month and the sick pay come out of different "banks" so it is possible to make more on reserve for the month wen you call in sick. I have scoured the PWA in both the Compensation and Scheduling areas and have not found my answer. Any contract gurus that can chime in and clarify this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a question, would SWA pilots swap the pay system and rates they have right now with ours?
That's probably a decent question to ask "The Others."
I mean $216 x 79 hours > $204 x 72 hours + 14% and a lot more than what 88/90 pilots get for flying similar sized aircraft on similar routes. They seem to do a lot better than straight rate x hours and some claim have a lot of days off, more than us.
Well, actually, when you have 37 guys on reserve and 4 or 5 of them have 0 hours, 0 short calls and 0 raw scores for the month, that's probably hard to beat. Glad we can have guys in Bucket 3 with others with 0 hours over the same days of availability. But who am I to point that out?

Shorts Are Piling Into These Stocks. Should You Be Worried? (DAL, MT)
Our favorite Mötley Fool contributor is at it again...same message as last week. Spirit is going to crush Delta because they are more flexible. I just don't get why he thinks Delta is so inflexible.
He claims he doesn't have any Delta positions, but he sure sounds like he's shilling for some underwater shorts. One of you smart guys need to go leave some tasty comments on his article.

SWA has a different business model where they serve 78 destinations in 39 states using a narrow body fleet. They have approximately 6,300 pilots.
Delta is a global network carrier that serves 318 destinations in 59 countries using a diverse fleet of aircraft as well as global and domestic partners. Delta has approximately 11,800 pilots.
In this highly competitive industry, each component of the Delta network is important. It would be great if Delta pilots were in as many of those seats as possible, but I think you can't assume that if we had SWA scope that Delta could, or would be just as large, serving the same markets. We'd probably resemble SWA more than Delta, fly a fleet of domestic narrow bodied aircraft and be a smaller airline than we are today. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will draw different conclusions.

I have found the Motley Fool articles in general (and specifically to the airlines) to be not only misinformed, but nearly approaching fraud if you think that anyone is actually taking them for actual research. They often not only have the facts wrong, but somehow end up a inexplicable conclusions that can only be based in personal emotion and bias. I don't even read them because I believe they have so little value that even novice investors have become skeptical. Doesn't surprise me that they are now down on DAL again, they have been since DAL was trading a $6 a share, it's painful to always be wrong they hope for a correction so they can finally see there look at that.

^^ I stopped reading fool.com last year too, seems like they are okay with random people who live in grandma's basement publishing articles without any oversight from an editing staff or industry experts. You'd do just as well to take investment advice from an RJ FO. By the way, short apple.
I see what you did there.

Another retired mil pilot sent this to me. Poor guy is a business executive making big bucks, but his flying days are over. Couple times a month he pumps me for flying stories and I allow him to buy lunch
Doesn't matter if you're civilian or military, this is for us all. We really do have the worlds best job, just ask your non flying friends.

I FLEW
by Brad Baker
When the last checklist's run and the bag drag is done,
I'll reminisce on the days I once knew,
I won't remember the oh-three-hundred alerts,
But only that I flew!
I will not remember the crew rest in tents,
Nor recall how cold Arctic winds blew,
And I'll try not to remember the times I got sick,
But only that I flew!
I will never forget when nature became angry,
To challenge my intrepid crew,
I'll always remember the fear I felt,
And the pride in knowing I flew.
I'll remember the sights my mortal eyes saw,
All colored in multiple hues,
Those beautiful lights on cold winter lights,
Seen only by those who flew.
God was extremely good to me,
He let me touch his face,
He saw my crew through war and peace,
And blessed us with His grace.
So when I stand at St. Peter's Gate,
And tell him that I'm new,
I know he'll smile and welcome me,
Because he knows
I FLEW!
