I highly doubt that

My secure content locker kept crashing, so according to the FAQ on DeltaNet I had to uninstall and reinstall the app. It's currently downloading 77 files...what a PITA. I prefer GoodReader.

It is hard enough as it is trying to raise our compensation now- all we need to do is get rid of the four year degree requirement to complete our transition from professionals to blue collar labor.

Scoop

How about if they applied to be janitors at the airports they fly out of? At some point, ALPA needs to define what the cost of doing business with pilots is. Or should I say they should have done that at some point.

I busted my hump to finish my degree to hopefully get on at Delta when hiring starts. I have 2 young kids and a busy life. It was not easy going back to school after 4 years of no school but I WANT to be at DAL. It doesn't matter I guess, but it's gonna feel like a slap in my face if folks are allowed in without a degree since Delta's website says its required. But, I'm not a fan of flow throughs or guaranteed interviews. I wish they would interview who they want and hire who they want. If that isn't me then I'm fine with that. Just wish the playing field was level. Just my honest opinion

Delta just got done with a merger with NWA. So in effect, Delta just 'hired' over 5,000 mainline Capts. and F/O's, none of whom interviewed with Delta, or, if they were interviewed by Delta, they turned Delta down for NW, or vice versa.

And before that merger, there was the Pan Am and Western mergeres and before that, the North East pilots, many, many, many of whom had no college at all.

But somehow, Delta survived.

Yes, there were (and still are) a few oddballs, but Delta hired plenty of them too, with 4 year degrees and Military training, they even got by Dr. Janis. There's always that 5%, right?

Having a College Degree doesn't make you a good person or a good pilot, being a good person does. That's why they interview, and they do a background check, made even easier today with them looking at your Facebook page and training records. I'm sure they will do all the required checks on all flows, college or not.
Sorry, but you're going astray with this one. Your logic would require equating NW's hiring standards with Pinnacle's. Some of the crud that hires at some of the regionals never could have made NW's selection, and for that matter could never had made it to a top-tier regional. The key word here being selection.

I'm not picking on Pinnacle specifically. My regional had a similar position in the industry, and we had our own undesireables. I don't know whether the average Pinnacle pilot is worse than the average Delta newhire, and I'm not making that argument. I don't even know how many guys are at Pinnacle that shouldn't fly for Delta. As far as I know, most of them will make great Delta pilots. But what I know for certain is that each individual needs to be assessed on their own merits, no more no less.

Someone is going to have to fly these guys, and that someone deserves a qualified crewmember next to them.

Here's my opinion: Of the yes voters, certainly a good portion of the senior ones were looking for the lifeline (or hope thereof).

Others were mixed between lifeline (starry eyed optimism) and acceptance that the paycut was better than the street.

Despite all the angst expressed in this thread, there is ZERO doubt that Pinnacle has some excellent pilots who can successfully land a DAL slot (or any other) by interviewing on their own merit.

The issue is: Who is the collective bargaining agent for the flying at Delta?

ALPA.

On behalf of the pilots at Delta Air Lines, Pinnacle and Alaska.

I would. They can't get it for free, so provided we don't roll over giving it to them, even a modest price tag would quickly evaporate the potential marginal gains. And I doubt very many flights are 99% reliable within a 1-59 minute window. If you get into the low single digits in dispatch unreliability or gate returns you rapidly diminish the miniscule paper savings of cutting a junior FO from those flights.

I don't see this happening but if they try we need to put a price tag on it that includes job security provisions significantly in excess of what they would be able to trim to even consider it.
