Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
It wouldn't matter. We used to have a 9 CA in NOLA that commuted from upstate MS to sit reserve in his RV in the airport parking lot. Pilots will gravitate to the cheapest way.
I was looking for a picture of a Delta A321. I found this, but I think it's fake...

Having to fund your own retirement and health care takes the "rich" out of "rich." It is not unfair, it simply is what it is. My father's generation could enjoy their money, buy toys, live like there was no tomorrow, because tomorrow was taken care of.
If you are poor, tomorrow is taken care of.
If you are in the middle, it is probably impossible to save enough for every contingency, but it would be irresponsible not to try.

For the last decade or so our family has mostly put my airline income in the bank, using income from my side jobs for daily expenses. That makes a nice, reliable nest egg. But, one little run in with a cardiac issue, cancer or long term care would still nearly wipe us out.
We literally can not save enough to cover all contingencies, nearly regardless of how much we make.

Well, last few years the wife and I have nonrevved internationally on Christmas Day, and come back about a week into January. It's worked out pretty well, we've never had a problem getting there or back.
This year, we brilliantly decided to stay in the country, visit friends in Portland the weekend before Christmas, then fly out to LAX 29Dec and return 1Jan.
Bad idea!!! It turns out Christmas/New Years is a really hard time to nonrev around the US! Who knew!?
Getting to Portland wasn't bad, but we had to take Horizon to Spokane to get back. LA on the other hand went from being fairly open to horribly oversold with a ton of nonrevs, literally overnight. We tried getting there Saturday and Sunday and never came closer than 20 numbers to getting on. At one point there were 68 nonrevs on the list with no seats available for the next two days. Finally on Monday, my wife told me to take the jumpseat and go hang out with our LA friends over NYE without her. Our friends happen to be two good-looking twin sisters. Delta Revenue Management Rocks!!!
Was also in the jumpseat coming back. Both crews (LA based) were cool, friendly, & gracious. Thanks guys! I do have to say, every time I see that 737NG overhead panel, I have to double-check the airworthiness certificate to see if it was really manufactured this century!

Jungle,
When non-reving on the west coast it is always helpful to remember what Obi-Wan Kenobe said to Luke Skywalker: "Use the ZED Luke."
OK, maybe it was "Use the force," but you get the idea.
Our Mainline network on the west coast is pathetic - we are fully dependent on codeshare/DCI. If I am doing any north south on the west coast with the wife I will first check for mainline flights through SLC but usually end up buying her a ZED on Alaska or Southwest. We have had great results with this plan. Not sure if this would work over the holidays but worth looking into.
As far as the LAX crews being cool - what do you expect, Buzzpat is our role model.
Scoop
You know that feeling when you have been out in the yard on a reeeeeealy hot summer day.... and then you go in and pop a reeeeeeeally cold beer... that first lingering sip.... and the satisfaction that follows. When I saw the Louisville QB take a knee... THAT was the feeling.....
Charlie Strong shoulda come to Knoxville though.

Not really impressed with the SEC, except Vandy and USC. UGA was tied 31-31 in the 4th to a team who was down 63-17 to Wisconsin at the start of the 4th quarter in their last game.
Les Miles is a nut. UF is over rated to the nth degree. We'll see what A&M and Bama do.
The headline was "First he spurned the SEC, then he beat them."

Bama 49, Irish 35...
And FU is not overrated, they just got beat by a better team. If anything, they have been a little underrated all year except for the usual ESPN lovefest. UGA will be scary good if their talent doesn't depart for the NFL. UT and AU will still suck next year. Nebraska is an overrated team. Always have been.
JMHO, YMMV

It always struck me as a very pragmatic solution and damned if I'm not going to try when I get displaced. .... and since I'll be flying until age 75, it will let me get a jump on my retirement lifestyle ...
I could also use this for Lemons racing. A real multipurpose vehicle. Hvae to admit, he clips the apex rather nicely, for a camper.
A propane tank and trailer hitch on the front of a racer? What could possibly go wrong with that?

Now that I've found a place to live, I can bid the 737 in Detroit.
- Shelter - check
- Nice deck - check
- No gutters to clean - check
- Exercise Equipment / GYM - check
- Food - check
- Washer Dryer - check
- Spare Car - check
- Refrigerator - check
- Not really a camper so Delta's going to have a hard time kicking me out of the lot - check
- Able to be relocated for less money than the relocation package provides - check
- Mobile to base to base with constant displacements - check
- Ford reliability and cheap parts - check
- Racing camper on the roof? Who else has a racing camper on their roof?
- No value worth stealing, or killing me for in Detroit - check
The question remains ... truck nuts, or no truck nuts? Maybe some silver ones for the holidays?
Edit: If the phrase "truck nuts" violates the terms of service, please replace this poor phrasing with BumperBalls, CargoNads, Drive-thru Danglers, Trucksticles, HitchNuggets, Balls-on-a-truck, or, as they are known in the United Kingdom, Bumper Bollocks.
