Scambo, I think you and I need to work up a Laural and Hardy, "Who's on First" type routine for the Gate Announcement.
Me: "You wanna tell em?"

The memo was stupid and in many ways is unworkable for several reasons that were pointed out. However, if you are already on the airplane and boarding has not started and you are flying an ULH flight, you can use the following:
Ladies and gentlemen, this flight is delayed for a theatre flying requirement and will likely be cancelled because we are not extending our day voluntarily and all the shortcall pilots are out of position. I won't be able to give you any follow up information, I have to get to my jumpseat home in 20 minutes.
I don't take the memo as a personal insult to my humanity and far too much is being made of it. There is no reason a pilot would not responsibly perform a customer service function, if able. All the angst is about when the pilots are not able/present.
