And how about next contract we get some more input on the surveys and to the reps that there should be some incentive pay for those who fly on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve & Christmas. Works for everyone around: if you want it off, you have someone who wants more pay to work those days.

Be very careful using that card. It (claiming stress inducing the inability to use your medical certificate, hence sick leave) can open a path that you don't want to go down. Just like you shouldn't fly fatigued...it's not sick and while you may be paid for the trip, you can't use sick leave to cover its expense.

I think it may be harsh to unequivocally say that in this instance calling in sick would be illegal and lacking in character; stress or sleep deprivation could certainly make one unfit for flight duty...having said that, you are correct that FMLA and vacation moves are viable options. My wife had a serious health issue last year and it took me about 10 mins on the phone to move a vacation so I could stay home and take care of her and the family.
