JL in SEA put this out in his latest email. Makes it sound like he didn't even vote for himself? The language is kinda weird. It's a 2-year term but the AP makes it sound like it's odd that TO was replaced in a normal election and then they say voted out old guy instead of voted in new guy. Does that sound goofy or is it me? Do reporters go to these things? Why do they even care?
Delta pilots elect new union leader
Delta Air Lines pilots replace union leader after 2 years
Associated Press – Nov 16, 2012
ATLANTA (AP) -- Pilots at Delta Air Lines Inc. have elected a new head of their union, replacing the previous one after just two years on the job.
The union's Master Executive Council voted out Tim O'Malley, the Air Line Pilots Association said on Friday.
He was replaced by Kingsley Roberts, an Atlanta-based pilot of Boeing 737s who has flown for Delta since 1988. Before working for Delta, Roberts flew C-130 cargo planes in the Air Force.
O'Malley, Roberts, and one other candidate had all sought the job, said Buzz Hazzard, a Delta pilot and the union's communication chairman.
The union didn't say why O'Malley was voted out. The three other main officers on the Master Executive Council retained their roles in the voting, which took place in Atlanta on Thursday.
The MEC has 19 voting members. Hazzard said the vote for Roberts was 11-8. The balloting came in a regularly scheduled vote.
Roberts' term begins on Jan. 1.
ALPA's Delta unit represents some 12,000 pilots. They've generally had a good relationship with the airline, with union leaders often invited to accompany executives when they make presentations to Wall Street analysts.
Shares of Delta Air Lines Inc. fell 10 cents to $9.39 in afternoon trading.

Looks like we were typing at the same time. Why take the time and money to email every Delta pilot for support and not vote for yourself?

True. Don't forget OS6 for the iPhone has a "Do Not Disturb" function.
Unfortunately, selecting that feature doesn't stop the drunken people celebrating in the parking lot of the Denny's next door at 3am, or Housekeeping yelling "Housekeeping!!!!!!" while beating on the doors next to yours when you're trying to sleep off last night's redeye.
Nu
Or - solution - go party with them at Denny's.

Do not know since I have not had a chance to ask him. I suspect he will explain it. Sounds to me like whatever reasoning that he used, ego was not part of it.

I figure he will write about it, and it will get posted here next week.
I doubt he ever had any misconceptions that he could win.
The idea was to make all of us aware that the election for MEC Chairman is a closed door affair with ZERO line pilot imput. Not only do we not get to vote for this critical position, we usually don't even know who is running.
The whole MEC administration and all the committee positions are chosen in a process that is more fitting for some secret society than a supposedly open and democratic union.
Think about it. Our Master Chairman was just ousted and we have no clue why or what the issues were that separated the candidates. The MEC operates entirely in secret.
Line pilots are treated like mushrooms. We are purposely excluded from almost every meaningful decision. That's why nobody ever attends an MEC meeting. As soon as they get done discussing the weather and serving the refreshments they close the meeting and go into "executive session".
I think Art Aaron should be praised for at least trying to shine a little light into that process.

Its not unusual to run just to make a point.

Based on the outcome of this election you'd almost have to assume they wanted someone with little to no negotiating experience? I don't believe that Chairman Elect Kingsley has any and O-Malleys name is all over negotiations documents for the last 6-7 years. Their both long-time volunteers but with much different pasts as far as I can tell?
