If those are the correct pay rates for United, pretty much guaranteed never to buy a 380 huh?
You want to do something about that, then you also have to make IAs pay straight pay too. I'll get on board with that, but otherwise not even closely interested. And morality has nothing to do with it, unless you are referring to forcing a pilot to forego his contractual rights to chase windmills as being moral.

I actually think the Surface will be the better choice in the long run. MS is much more adaptable and business friendly compared to Apple.

You could have a provision to limit GS while guys are on the street. If you reduced IAs to straight pay at the same time, the company would be singing hosannahs. Now they would have carte blanche to really screw guys with zero financial penalty.
Bad idea.
(p.s. I've never flown a GS with guys on the street, and average one every four years).

Do not, EVER, Assume they will do the common sense thing, and cancel your CQ. I've had them send me to CQ when I was 1 trip away from leaving the category! You should call them and beg them not to send you, maybe you can white slip something to fill the hole, but never assume they will do what seems to be the smart thing!
I don't agree. Double pay for a GS is a "reward" to the pilot for volunteering to fill in when staffing is tight. Double pay for an IA is a "punishment" to the company for forcing a guy to fly on his days off when he didn't have any request in at all (gate agent meets pilot in jetway, etc).

This really is a blah, blah, blah topic.
Furlough sucks. Its a realistic fact of this business. The real lesson is to learn from the life experience of others -always have a backup plan if you are a pilot. Live well within your means and make saving an emergency fund a priority. Don't be anyone's beotch.
My experience has been like Timbo's. It is good to hear the Co. has maybe smartened up on this. It has been a silly waste of resources in the past.
