I've been reluctant to say anything about this, but Alaska kicked United to the curb, then kicked Southwest to the curb, and they would gladly kick us to the curb too. All in the name of BRAND LOYALTY. The Seattleite proudly runs his Windows 8 PC, sips his Starbucks coffee, and vacations along Alaska Airlines' route structure. They are a fiercely loyal customer group and honestly don't take lightly to competition on Alaska's route structure. Every other airline sees SEA as a "lousy hub". That's because the market is cornered like nowhere else in the country.
If you're from the South I don't expect you to understand. So feel free to tell me I'm wrong and that Delta is great - especially because we don't shut down the APU until we have external air.

If you are from the South ... Alaska is Delta, back in the Dave Garrett days.

People East of Boise don't get it. It's the same crowd that refers to them as "Alaskan" lol
plus they have great FA's, traveling on them for work or pleasure is always a great experience.

I don't know, I've never tried to hook anyone on crack, but if I did I'd probably go about it the same way Delta is getting Alaska's high value and deeply loyal customers hooked on redeeming miles (especially international travel to 65 countries) and of course nonstop out of SEA to Japan, Korea, China and Hawaii.
Because once you've got them hooked, they're yours.

Not to mention that is certainly factually incorrect considering the footprint that Southwest has on the west coast as well.

I am from the south alright, about 3 hours drive south from ANC. Do understand about the customer base, but still think our product can compete with theirs, especially with our network.

Well, I take back what I said about being wrong about the DL/AK announcement last month. Looks like they will be expanding into our hubs after all. I suspect more announcements to come out of LAX.
SLC currently has 6 daily mainline flights to SEA. DL could easily put our code on the 2 AK flights and drop 2 of ours, and put AKs code on the other 4. Or just drop the 2 DL flights. Good for the DL pilot?
The problem with ALFA and others who vehemently defend this sort of scheme is that they don't realize, in fact they deny--that this leads to stagnation. What is the current upgrade time at AK? Care to guess? It's 12 years to left seat on the 737. What is it at DL? In SLC or LAX? 22 years?
Does SLC have any open positions on this latest bid? Nope. Only displacements. More to come I'm sure as the bigger RJs come to take over the A320 flying and AK adds more flights to LAX,SAN,SFO and wherever else they please. Where are the 900ER positions? Where are the 717 RJ replacement positions promised in the TA? This TA sealed the fate of the SLC hub. Have a good look at the new CVG.
Why should you care? Because if it works there, it'll work in DTW, MSP, even in ATL.
Does DL really make money flying 757s from SLC to SEA? Probably not. We make money feeding the SEA Intl. operation. So what does it matter if we codeshare or not with AK on that route? The pax still can connect to DL, use the SkyClub, and get miles.
IT MATTERS because 12 years vs 22 years. I make money flying DL jets. That someone can have the GALL to tell me this is GOOD for me is infuriating. Or tell me this has NOTHING TO DO with stagnation. That this person represents the attitude of my union is SICKENING! Are you paid to write this stuff?
Is ATL-JAX any different? Think it can't happen there?
Watch the spring schedule. Watch those 2 DL 757's on SLC SEA vaporize. Then you'll know the truth.
Does this remind anyone else of "RJ's are Savin our Bacon"?

Hey, guys. AE question here... I'm a line holder on the 320 in NYC. If I get knocked down to reserve during this bid, I'd rather just bid over to the 7ER. Is there a way to specify this on my AE or VD bid?
