Sometimes pilots take things too seriously. Life is short. Enjoy the ride.

P.S. Before the haters start hatin', know that professionalism and humor are not, in fact, mutually exclusive concepts.

I think if you are going to make a funny safety video, you need to make it REALLY funny, otherwise it just comes off as....lame. I actually thought the Fly button was the funniest part of the entire video, but you know how twisted I am.

The Hobbit one was ok, could have been a little funnier if they had a Fat Warlock Captain on board...

There better be a call in to Bastian, and more specifically, a follow-up on that call by Bastian. ALPA often misses opportunities to show that we are pilots, not lap-dogs. The inclusion of the button in the video is probably accidental, but it's still a slap in the face.

The opportunity to respond represents a low-threat, low-visibility, low-risk chance to validate that our relationship based on respect, not belly-rubs, without suggesting anything that would impact the public perception of our relationship. The upside: an easy, low-cost, low-visibility, low-risk opportunity for the union to show that we think of ourselves as professionals. It's an internal PR thing, and it's a simple matter: the slap in the face requires removal.

So the video must be cleaned up. To accept the "Fly" button on the heels of the memo about dress codes would be pathetic. Pay attention, union: little things can mean a lot. Don't miss this one.

I liked the FLY button too.
It didn't even occur to me that it might be offensive somehow.

My vote is on the Air NZ, the fly button could care less.

Probably. I'm sure a lot of us are tools.

I still think you could do a bunch of funny things involving us that don't suggest we don't render a valuable service. The video in question can't be accessed anymore, but I didn't see anything in it that doesn't suggest our flight attendants are anything but valued, professional people that also know how to be funny. Nothing is done that lowers their worth.

The commercials Delta puts out do a lot to emphasize the people, and do rght by us, as far as I'm concerned. They carefully control the message. They just didn't find it important to find a way to be funny without doing at our expense.

I agree on one point: this isn't something to have a coronary over, simply a very low-key, nice opportunity for us to test the relationship just a little. Why not try the road less travelled on this one? When is the last time we stepped up and changed something we didn't like?

Here is what's ironic: I didn't actually see the end of the commercial. I'm writing several paragraphs about something that's being described to me... I'll try the decaf and go to bed.

Who cares about the Safety Video button? Overall, it is well done, as are Mr. Anderson's intros.

But, Delta is connected with a bit of film that we should formally protest. "Flight" opens with a Captain bedding Flight Attendants in between lines of cocaine with vodka chasers just before duty in while using shades mostly to cover bloodshot eyes. It isn't drama. ... it is garbage.

Worse, several reviewers have stated "fliers will be terrified" will "google rental cars" and "Grayhound." Guess marketing thought that was a good idea?

If ALPA got insulted about the "fly" button on the video for degrading our value, why weren't they insulted by 4 8 3 3 and workrules concessions after years in a bankruptcy contract?
