I'm right there with you newK... but I think it's pretty simple, sometimes you just HAVE to say, "I TOLD YOU SO!!" even when you know it's making you look like a big richardcranium. I'd say that's where purple is coming from... I don't know that I disagree with him at all, and he probably doesn't go on about this for a whole trip. I hope.

You count options? Planes they haven't even ordered yet? I guess you better make the Delta 737-900ER count 130 then. And don't forget our 60 787's we have.

SLC, Belize and Costa Rica.....and more to come after that. I am happy for my friends at Alaska. I say that sincerely.

I am sick to death of hearing from the union at Delta how outsourcing is good for us in the long run and we could never do this flying economically. It is pure nonsense. All the talk of tightening the reigns in C2012 of outsourced flying were words only. Another wasted opportunity where the Delta pilot group (under shortsighted, conflicted leadership) collectively shot itself in the foot. Frustrating.
There are already some rumors floating around that ALK is starting SLC service in 2013. I've heard SLC to LAX, LAS, PDX, and SEA will be ALK cities out of SLC. Now if ALK starts those routes and we pull SKYW flights out of those cities and keep our mainline service status quo then I'm cool with that. However, I have a feeling we will see the same number of SKYW ops into those cities and they will "right size" our domestic operations out of SLC.

No, I just didn't do a good job of explaining! He said he was able to drop trips as a first year FO, which I haven't been able to do more than twice since 2007. As for the APD's I understand there can be a lower required number for it to be approved and have only been denied it once...that I can remember.
The 45/44 number I referenced were for this month in ATL as I have been trying to drop a couple of trips.....
Now off to catch the VP debate

Don't work at SWA then. You'd be even MORE miserable.

You mean work rules that haven't even kicked in yet? Do you have sensible numbers that prove your claim? Again, don't go to SWA as they're more productive then us.

You mean their 17 airplanes of growth they announced today? Have you seen what's happening to AF? Have you seen how they're shrinking, and having some of their flying farmed to a low cost subsidiary? Perhaps we should joint OneWorld who just welcomed Qatar into their family?

How so? They're are thousands of RJ drivers out there who are more then qualified. Now the RJ operators? They're likely in trouble WRT to replacing attrition.

Grow? I certainly didn't think it would grow post merger. Not in the first 5-7 years. After that? Who knows? We could merge again.

Default Delta hiring?

So I got an email from a hiring site and it lists Delta as hiring for the MD. Is this really happening? From some of the posts I thought it might be another year or so for hiring to start. Anyone have the Deets!

You're not going to sit there and tell me that every RJ pilot with enough hours and PIC to be competitive will be qualified to work here.

And it would be supremely arrogant to think that every RJ pilot that is "Delta" qualified will even want to work here, with everyone under the sun hiring.

I had a chance to go to SWA, and turned it down. I don't want to be anywhere else. But dammit, we've got to improve our situation in an attempt make this a worthwhile career. If we continue down the road of rolling over to DALPA/management without using some common sense, this place could get real ugly over the next 30 years. Surely even you can admit that we're going to get fleeced with many aspects of this contract, especially productivity giveaways, and it's not even fully in place. Let's not do that again.

Yes, I'll be "that guy" to play richard cranium, as roadkill said. And no, I don't go on about it for the whole trip. I throttle back by leg 9.

Not sure what you're talking about but considering that:

No hiring will occur until after flows have been given notice and that has NOT happened yet and...

Our leadership at all levels has JUST said no hiring at this time and...

Even when (if?) we (DAL) do hire again it wouldn't be advertised specifically for one fleet type anyway (not to mention that new hire classes in 07, 08 and 2010 have had some degree of a choice of aircraft in almost every single class not including the classes that all went to the ER)...

All lead me to believe that whatever you read from whomever you read it was completely made up. It could end up being true but only by pure coinsidence, and odds are its simply made up at this time.

Dems da deets.

Which site? Do you have a link? I have not heard a peep from the Manager of Pilot Selection at Delta. I think the earliest we will be hiring is late 2013 unless Network increases the block hours for next year.
