...or maybe he planned his future around the concept that his union would look out for his (and not the company's) best interests?

We won't make that mistake again.

That argument works both ways. The short time from fervent sales pitch and the company securing a huge productivity increase to the current tone/language coming from ALPA/management is instructive. And yet none of the preexisting conditions when the contract was voted on have really changed. Not only that but we spent some future retirements in the process.

It's a sales job that was not honest and no two ways about it is leading to more stagnation for those trapped in the middle and at the bottom................Dude.

Spin away.

I think there is a way for you to join council 20 if it is more regionally beneficial for you.

UnIted is cancelling it's Moscow service. That's 2 destinations now that we've pushed them out.

At DragonCon maybe?

Here in the real world we should be looking at real world results. At the time of our TA we were the second least efficient pilot group in the majors (only AMR was lower). There are plenty of sources for that info. Maybe you can talk of the outsourced/surplused pilots at those more efficient properties? Then take a look at our rates in that light.

SWAPA's amendable date was a month ago. How are their negotiations going?

Instead of looking at threats to our careers and opportunities for our advancement we have a bunch of people, including several candidates for office, focused on belly button lint. They're calling for "consensus" while advocating a position taken by the minority in the last TA. In other words there'll only be "consensus" when it's done their way. They're arguing for "consensus" and calling for political election of the MEC Chair. They're doing the same for committee chairs. Really?

How does any of that improve the pay, benefits, working conditions and job security of the Delta pilots? How many line pilots actually give a crap about these "issues?"

I don't know if anybody has announced for C81. In C20 there have only been 2 candidates announced for Capt and 1 for FO rep. In ATL there were 4 Capt candidates and 5 FO candidates for nomination. That's not exactly an outpouring of angst among councils representing over 6000 pilots. Yet I look at candidates that send out 5 letters saying there's too much to talk about, yet repeat the same thing in each letter...no meat. I see very few focusing on the issues of the majority...ya know the pay, benefits, working conditions and retirement of the pilots. I see a lot of navel gazing.

So I hope you do enjoy your rate increases. Should your point of view ever win the day, I'll hold you to the same standard that the minority currently holds those doing our work. And I sincerely hope they can prove me wrong and not be the failures that others that have tried the path they advocate have been.
So, Slow, just to be clear on what you said: The "modeling" from our "stratemgy committee" and/or NC, endorsed by the administraion, trades jobs for pay.

Check.

Not at all. But...

What I'm observing is candidates who think the major focus should be on the Policy Manual. I've never seen that focus, except for this election. I surmise that it's a play to get what they want via some political maneuvering versus a political majority. It might be a way to gain more individual influence in a structure that has confusing and crossed lines of responsibility. Fundamentally, it probably displays a poor understanding of effective organizations.

I've seen in the past a different focus. Where do we fall short in pay, working conditions, benefits, etc., and how do we improve them?

So does changing the Policy Manual get us better pay because it makes us a more effective organization? I'd like to hear what is broken, and how to fix it, before jack hammering the foundation.

Your thoughts?

Where are the DTW 737 rumors coming from? I didn't glean much about it happening from any of the "updates." It certainly makes more sense than having a DC9 category here. I still can't understand why they aren't all crewed out of ATL now. Only 7 DC9 departures per day out of DTW, and there's even a 5 day trip in the package with EVERY layover in ATL! I didn't count them all, but just looking at the layovers in Nov for the 9, easily over 50% are in ATL.
