Most airlines don't have an ACARS that was designed to be so user friendly. The Honeywell ACARS on a CRJ interfacing with a Rockwell avionics package is a bad idea. The Rockwell Datalink isn't much better.

Your MEL is just so great though. That's awesome.

As others have mentioned, a union which is conflicted about outsourcing loses focus on its core mission. It is impossible to take the moral high ground on safety, while out the back door you agree with management to facilitate outsourcing.

While I do not speak on behalf any of the candidates, a reason I support Dave Nestor and Chad Smith is my impression that they "get" ALPA's mission and are clearly focused on the foundational principles on which our association was built...
This really is the most salient point.

I have seen the game as it is played at a non-ALPA carrier.
I've been there, I've seen colleagues fired to "get the FAA off our back".
It's why I voted to be represented by ALPA in a representative election.

This is the key reason for having a national union!
One level of safety. As long as operators out there are able to take creative shortcuts, they will always have the lower cost of an ALPA represented carrier.

The biggest threat to ALPA isn't the DPA, but ALPA itself.
  • Transparency

johnso29, that is not correct. The end of month check is paid as half the reserve guarantee for that month, and is an "advance" only in that it is pay for flight in that month that will finally be paid in full on the 15th of the next month.

For example: Your Sep flying will be paid on Sep 30th and Oct 15th. On the first check, you get the first XX hours (equal to half the reserve guarantee) and on Oct 15th you get whatever else you are owed (plus per diem).

The Sep 30 check was much lower, because reserve guarantees in Sep went way down compared to the summer months.

That is not correct either. See my reply to johnso in another post. If you flew zero hours from 9-1 thru 9-15, but flew a ton in the last half, you'll still get half the reserve guarantee in your 9/30 check.

PG,

Thanks for the clarification. Columbia deserves a shout out too, as I believe he corrected me first. Thanks guys.

Were you all good for the same number of days?

Seniority for SC assignment only has bearing within your respective bucket. IOW, if you're in the 4 day bucket & someone junior to you is in the 3 day bucket scheduling must assign SC to all those junior to you in the 4 day bucket only. Your seniority has no effect over the guy in the 3 day bucket, even if he is junior to you.

The jr. guys to me are all in the same bucket. We are all on day 1 of the month with no short calls with the same number of days available.
