Legit question time.

Does Delta serve any city in Vietnam or is it just via code shares? Looking to take a trip next month.

Hiring is quite possible, capacity neutral til summer, then growth aircraft. Looking at more 717's, some in the desert right now. DC-9's now staying til 2014, possibly longer. 1.7 billion profit this year, annual interest expense down by 500 million per year. By looking west think SEA growth and SA, we need to get bigger there. Electronic flight bag to be introduced to the 717 as it comes on line with rest of fleet to follow. Company is going to purchase 60,000 Windows based tablets, Steven Ballmer himself pitched them to RA. Everything from training to cockpit access to wifi for real time info. If I think of more I'll post it. Most important thing said was "what you didn't hear is more important than what you did".
The reason why near term hiring is on the bubble are the two great unknowns, the economy (Europe) and AMR. The economy is picking up steam from the early summer blahs but will it have legs or just sputter along? AMR is rapidly becoming more and more unstable. Delta is poised to take advantage of any weakness that occurs. It seems the AMR pilots want to burn the place down and at least some of them might get their wish to work for someone else or find a new industry. The rejection of the contract means American now needs to find more RJ lift and Delta is happy to let our DCI carriers bid for them. The faster the RJ's leave, the faster mainline capacity will fill in.

So right now we are set for the summer of 2013, but one little blip upwards and then hiring has to start soon to staff up. As soon as you start hiring, then you are putting people in the school house and then you need even more pilots. Once the balloon pops, it pops all the way.

I'm hearing that none of these good rumors would be out if you'd gotten your way on the TA...

So if you had been a rep, would you have allowed the pilots to vote on the TA? That's an important question. Would you have represented the 38% or the majority?

Maybe the 38% would be a much larger % had he been there.
