But after furloughing 1300 guys for 5 years, and those guys scrambling to find a job, and after 11 years gone mostly working for the mil... are you really going to b it ch and moan about these 5 guys????? Take a look at the SICK LIST and disability list --almost 1000 pilots out on sick! I think if you're in a mood for getting your Witch Hunt pitchfork out, there are much more fertile areas to look than the mil leave...
Bankruptcy is a legal process by which the Company goes about screwing creditors, including employees, out of what it owes them. While in bankruptcy, Delta still somehow found the money to fund speaking engagement(s) for the author of "Secrets of a Gay Marine Porn Star" and "Youth Pride." Leo and Michelle were paid well in excess of what I will earn during my entire career with hopefully a little more than 20 years to go. There was money for pet causes and million, no, make that Billions, went out the door on poorly considered outsourcing decisions and "best friend" consulting services.
So, in my view the "sham divorces" were using one legal strategy to defend against another legal strategy. I think I'm the only person who's initial reaction was, "pretty good blocking manuever." Most pilots see a pilot acting unethically and stop without considering the degree which management had acted unethically. We pilots are an ethical bunch ... and that is a good thing.
Let me be clear, neither is right and I don't condone either action. I don't sit in judgement (nor do I wish to) but what Leo Mullin and Michelle Burns did to Delta is a lot worse than a hand full of alleged would be double dippers.
If someone abuses the system and gets caught, give them the "opportunity" to make amends.
OK, an un-Dude opinion here, but ... I think Road Kill has a point.

Bar;
I doubt seriously if you were the only one that had that reaction. For every offense you have to have a good defense. To catch a crook, you have to think like a crook.

Over the last several years the top corporate executives at Northwest and Delta airlines negotiated retirement packages guaranteeing them millions in the event the companies declared bankruptcy and defaulted on their pension payments to employees. Both companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Wednesday, in large measure to escape their pension obligations and seek the bankruptcy court’s backing for sweeping cuts in airline workers’ jobs, wages and benefits.
Since 2000, Delta has lost $10 billion, slashed 23,000 jobs and cut pay for pilots, managers and other employees. Three years ago the company spent more than $44 million setting up trusts to protect executives’ pension benefits from creditors in case of bankruptcy, saying the perk was needed to retain executives in hard times. Because transferring money to bankruptcy-proof trusts typically triggers big tax bills for the executives, Delta inflated the amounts to compensate for the extra taxes.
Retiring CEO Leo Mullin, who was paid $13 million in compensation in 2001, was given 22 years of instant seniority—although he worked for Delta for only five-and-half years—boosting his retirement package to $16 million.

I'm glad pilots are cut from better cloth than that. Makes pilots a pleasant crowd to work with.

Anyone else notice NYERb has 10 guys on s/c for tomorrow? ***? There's nothing in open time until the 14th, Zero Wx in the area and none forecasted all week. Seems to me they are putting so many on s/c just because they CAN, not that they NEED to. Funny, all summer long there was typically 4-6 on s/c a day, with PLENTY of rsv's on l/c as well. Here we are a month later, NOTHING in open time, flying dropped by 12% and they nearly double the # of s/c's. WHY? Why should 10 guys/gals a day have to commute to NYC to sit for 24hrs for what? Is there any guidance or formula to calculate how my s/c are required for a given day? Going to call Dalpa and council 66 FO Rep. Perhaps the other 100 NYC ERb reserves should as well. Be a pain in the a$$ until they quit doing this just because they "can".
