Looks like "shrinking to profitability" is not just Delta's technique.

330 and 777 pilots get bicycles shipped for free. Door to door service. Cold Milk or hot chocolate and cookies of your choice to the sender and receiver.

My advice is bid the 777.

Checking it on Delta=$150. Even for non-revs.

The only way to do it at a decent rate is to ship it cargo. Logistically a bit more challenging but way cheaper. Since we get 90% off Dash and bulk cargo. I just brought shipped a full bike and an extra pair of wheels from NYC to ATL for 50. w/o the wheels it probably would have been around 30 something.

Bikes and airlines do NOT get along these days. At all.

Box up the bike, label it as sporting equipment (after all that is what it is), and check it.

FROM: Douglas Post Certification Test Flight Dept.
TO: Douglas Test Pilots

Citing the need for hazardous duty pay, the self appointed DPAC (Douglas Political Action Committee) got their resolution passed unanimously to study raising their pay to the highest narrow body category, also known as "further pay banding" out of C44 today. All objections raised by wide body Captains were quelled by the reality of facing a 10+ year Douglas pilot in a confined meeting room.*
