Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Carl beat me , but yea, the competitor dies. Why did United give Pan Am money to survive (Pacific and LHR), AMR same to TWA (LHR). We would solidify our position as THE New York airline, one of our stated main goals coming out of restructuring.
No as much as we hate OH, we need OH. They are a great accumulator in the system. We need someone that is not bound by the DCI min flying that is in a lot of these contracts.
IMHO you will not see a lot of NEW flying awarded to our DCI carriers. They may fight over the remaining flying, but there will not be newly created flying. If they choose to add flying the WO carriers will get it, because they can cut it at their desire.
One more lesson that our company has learned about this great DCI experiment.
I cannot wait to see these contracts expire and not get renewed. One of the many many reasons that I would have never made a regional my final stop.
I keep telling my buddies this.

If the slots were unused they become available to any airline that wants them. At almost all slot controlled airports you must use all your slots. Its use it or lose it. That certainly applies at DCA.
ACL,
Good point, I hadn't thought about that. But hey, I'm learning. Is there anything out there that shows who/when some of the upcoming lift agreements expire?

Google "Northwest DCA slots" There is some history on this although I don't know the current status of some of these arrangements...it fits into what you guys are tossing around though.
Don't have time to sort though it right now but here is an excerpt from something in 2004:
US, a carrier that continues to have significant economic problems, is apparently entering into a lease of 18 DCA slots from Northwest Airlines. Adding these 18 slots to its existing slot holdings, US Airways will now operate approximately 360 DCA slots. Is it possible that with these additional slots, US could not find two slots to add additional PBI service? Even without its lease of the Northwest slots, US operates approximately 16 more DCA daily operations in July, 2004 than it operated in July, 2003. In total, US operates 2,296 DCA flights each week.
