The shift of block hours from DCI to the mainline for the 717 will require over 1000 pilots to staff. How many new hires that ends up being will only be known if you can predict the total block hours marketing plans on flying. Since the 717's don't start coming online until after next summer I would not expect a lot of hiring driving by the 717 until next fall. There planned first 717 bid will be in Dec or Jan to get the pipeline going.
With all the capacity reductions, we are carrying enough fat to fill the 717 and 737 through 2014. Management will not have to address the AF JV until mid 2015 and oh shockers, we have a contract then ... lemme see ... scope problem ... scope SOLUTION ... no problem ... the job sales are as easy to time as the end of season sales on lawn mowers.
Management probably over played their hand a bit if they bluffed about hiring. Same players will be at the next card game, if we have a next card game.Yep. They take a long term perspective on scope. This allows management to exploit our lack of strategic direction, or moral guidance.

Or...if you wanted to run the price up for whom ever does end up with them, just like AA's Cradall did to Mo'Ron with the Pan Am buy.

You assume that if we had a 100 percent scope clause at Delta all that flying would still be done. Thats a very bad assumption and would not be the case. I am also talking about changes since 2001. In June of 2001 we had the same number of pilot block hours at Delta as we did in June of 07 prior to the merger. We however had 3000 plus fewer pilots then we had in 01. The difference was and is work rules.

Who wants trust the judgement of a prosecutor in not following up on an easy case against a flight crew for transporting this stuff?
